MatchaBar Introduce
In a city where coffee shops are on almost every block, a place dedicated to a different kind of ritual stands out. MatchaBar, located on Prince Street in SoHo, is a destination for those seeking a vibrant, healthy, and delicious alternative to the traditional coffee scene. This isn’t just a cafe; it’s a specialty bar focused on the rich, complex, and health-boosting properties of matcha, a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. The name itself, "MatchaBar," is a clear signal of its purpose: a place where the art of preparing this ancient beverage is celebrated and perfected. For many New Yorkers, it has become their go-to for a clean, sustained energy boost without the jitters associated with coffee.
MatchaBar has earned a reputation for serving "the best matcha in town," and for good reason. It goes beyond the standard offerings to provide a variety of high-quality drinks that are both flavorful and functional. While its setup may be unconventional—operating as a small bar connected to another food establishment—it's a system that works perfectly for its purpose. It caters to a clientele that knows what they want: an excellent matcha drink, made with care and available quickly. For those who are vegan, lactose intolerant, or simply seeking a dairy-free option, the cafe's commitment to offering a variety of milks is a major draw. It’s a place that proves that sometimes, all you need is a focused, high-quality product to become a neighborhood favorite.
MatchaBar is situated at 70 Prince St, New York, NY 10012, in the fashionable and bustling neighborhood of SoHo. This prime location places it right in the middle of a vibrant retail and dining hub. Its presence on Prince Street makes it an ideal spot for a quick stop while shopping, exploring the area, or simply needing a break. The unique setup of the cafe is part of its charm and efficiency. While it operates as a small bar and doesn’t have traditional seating, its connection to the food place Dig Inn allows for a convenient synergy. You can order your food and tack on a delicious matcha drink from inside, or simply grab your beverage from the outdoor bar for a fast and efficient experience.
The cafe's unconventional layout prioritizes speed and convenience. As one customer noted, it’s a "matcha BAR, as in no place to sit unless you take it inside." This might seem odd, but for New Yorkers on the go, it's a feature, not a bug. It's a place designed for a quick, high-quality transaction that fits seamlessly into a busy schedule. This focus on a grab-and-go model allows them to keep the service fast and the line moving, ensuring you get your matcha fix without a long wait. The location is easily accessible by public transportation, making it a simple stop for anyone passing through the downtown area.
MatchaBar’s services are highly specialized, focusing on their core product: matcha. Their menu is built around delivering a high-quality, authentic experience to every customer, with offerings that cater to a variety of tastes and dietary needs. Here is a look at what you can expect:
Exceptional Matcha Drinks: The main offering is, of course, the matcha drinks. The menu includes a variety of options, from a classic matcha to specialty lattes. Customers consistently praise the "excellent" quality of the drinks, which are known for their vibrant flavor and smooth texture. The focus on matcha allows the baristas to be true experts in their craft, ensuring a perfect drink every time.
Dietary Accommodations: A significant highlight of MatchaBar is its commitment to inclusivity. The cafe offers a variety of milk alternatives for those who are lactose intolerant, vegan, or simply avoiding dairy. This thoughtful approach ensures that a wider range of customers can enjoy their delicious drinks without compromise. It’s a detail that a loyal customer pointed out as a key reason for their love of the place.
Vegan-Friendly Food: While the menu is primarily focused on drinks, MatchaBar also offers a small selection of food items. One customer review specifically mentions that the cookies are "tasty," making it a great place for a quick snack. The vegan-friendly options on the food menu complement their dairy-free drinks, making the cafe a true haven for those who follow a plant-based diet.
Quick and Efficient Service: The business model is built around speed and quality. The setup as a small bar allows for a very quick and efficient ordering process. This is ideal for New Yorkers who are constantly on the move and need a rapid and delicious pick-me-up. Whether you're ordering from the outdoor bar or through the connected restaurant, the process is streamlined and hassle-free.
MatchaBar's unique attributes are what make it a must-visit for matcha lovers and a compelling alternative for coffee drinkers. It’s not just about the beverage; it's about the entire experience. Here are some of its key highlights:
The Best Matcha in Town: This is the most significant and consistent highlight. Customers describe the matcha as the "best in town," even going so far as to compare it favorably to competitors. This reputation for superior quality is a powerful reason to visit and try it for yourself. The commitment to sourcing and preparing high-quality matcha is evident in every sip.
Ideal for Vegans: For a city with a growing vegan population, MatchaBar is a fantastic resource. The availability of multiple milk options and tasty vegan food makes it a reliable and exciting choice. As one customer enthusiastically put it, "If you’re vegan, this is the place."
No-Fuss, Focused Experience: The "bar" concept, with no dedicated seating, creates a straightforward and intentional experience. It’s a place to grab a drink and go, perfect for a quick bite. This simple model eliminates the pressure of finding a table and allows them to focus on what they do best: crafting great matcha drinks.
A Healthy Alternative: For those looking to reduce their coffee intake or simply enjoy a beverage with added health benefits, MatchaBar is a great solution. Matcha is known for providing a calm alertness without the crash, making it a popular choice for a productive day. The food menu also features healthy options that complement this wellness-focused approach.
When you visit MatchaBar, the choice is clear: you must try the matcha. While the menu is concise, the quality is high across the board. The Matcha Latte is a classic choice, offering a balanced and delicious introduction to their high-quality product. For a simple and pure experience, a straight matcha drink is the way to go. The availability of different milk options also means you can customize your drink to your exact preference, whether you prefer oat, almond, or another alternative.
Beyond the drinks, don't forget to grab one of their cookies. A customer mentioned they were "tasty," and a delicious snack is the perfect accompaniment to your matcha. While the primary focus is on the beverages, the small food menu adds a nice touch and proves the cafe's dedication to quality extends to all its offerings. Ultimately, what is worth choosing is the experience of a perfectly prepared matcha drink from a place that has mastered its craft. It's a quick, delicious, and healthy choice that will have you feeling energized and uplifted.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I'd put it at like 4.5 if I could. Very good, cookies are tasty albeit a little bit hard (might have more to do with our timing as it's raining with not a large amount of customers) Matcha drinks are excellent and they offer a variety of milks to choose from per drink for those who are lactose intolerant, vegan, or simply avoiding dairy.Keep in mind this place is a matcha BAR, as in no place to sit unless you take it inside. The location is connected to a food place, Dig Inn. You can order inside if you tack it onto a food order, but otherwise it must be ordered outside at their little bar. Odd, but it works.
April 30 · Carter AnneAdore this place. Best matcha in town. Cha Cha Matcha has an awesome vibe but their coconut matcha latte is trash. If you’re vegan, this is the place 🌿💚
October 02 · Maria PetrovaIf you’re looking for a quick matcha drink in the city, MatchaBar is the place to go to! Wait time is about 3-5 minutes and the drink is perfect. Not too heavy on the matcha powder and not too heavy on the syrup. The picture features a matcha rose ice latte and the balance was perfect. The storefront a literally a hole in a wall so you’ll need to take your drink to go and enjoy. If you’re looking for an insta friendly prop, their match to the people sign is super cute🍵
June 03 · I HThe only authentic place in NYC to get matcha latte. Period.
February 01 · Keira ChuI got a matcha latte with cashew milk. I thought this is very good, I love the atmosphere of the store, and the servers were very friendly and fun. I really like the variety as well. I would not say this was the best Matcha I have ever had in my life, but it was worth the walk from work.
