Mixteca Introduce
New York City's bar scene is a world of its own, constantly evolving with new and exciting concepts. In the heart of Greenwich Village, a new spot has emerged that is quickly becoming a beloved neighborhood gem: Mixteca. More than just a simple bar, Mixteca offers a unique and authentic experience that pays homage to the rich traditions of the Mixteca region of Mexico. It is a place where expertly crafted cocktails meet a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, creating a destination that is both sophisticated and casual. The establishment has quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality drinks and friendly service, making it a must-visit for anyone in search of a memorable night out in the city.
The concept behind Mixteca is a refreshingly straightforward one: to provide an agave-focused bar experience with the same precision and poise as a high-end speakeasy, but in a more laid-back, street-level setting. The a la carte style is a perfect fit for the New York crowd, who appreciate a no-fuss approach to quality. This article will provide a detailed overview of what makes Mixteca a standout destination, from its prime location in a historic neighborhood to its exceptional cocktail program and the unique features that have captured the attention of its early patrons. Whether you're a local resident looking for your new go-to spot or a tourist seeking a genuine New York bar experience, Mixteca is worth putting on your radar.
Mixteca is located at 1 Cornelia St, New York, NY 10014, USA. This address places it in the highly sought-after and charming West Village neighborhood, a part of the city known for its historic brownstones, cozy streets, and vibrant nightlife. The bar’s prime location on Cornelia Street, a quiet and picturesque lane, makes it feel like a true hidden gem, even though it is situated right on the street. The neighborhood's rich history and residential feel provide a warm and inviting backdrop for the bar's unique atmosphere.
Accessibility to Mixteca is very convenient, a crucial factor for any establishment in New York City. The bar is within walking distance of several major subway stations, including the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, B, D, F, and M trains at various stops such as Christopher Street – Sheridan Square and West 4th Street – Washington Square. This makes it easily accessible for patrons coming from all over Manhattan and the outer boroughs. As a street-level bar, access is straightforward for all patrons. The combination of a central, yet tucked-away location, and excellent public transportation access ensures that Mixteca is a convenient and desirable spot for a wide range of visitors.
Mixteca is a specialized establishment that focuses on providing an elevated bar experience.
Cocktail and Bar Service: The primary service offered is a full bar experience with a focus on expertly crafted cocktails. The menu features a variety of agave-based drinks, including unique takes on classics like the spicy margarita. Patrons can enjoy their beverages while seated at the bar or at a table.
Food Offerings: Mixteca has a unique partnership with Tacos 1986, a renowned taqueria. This collaboration allows patrons to order delicious Tijuana-style street tacos and other food items directly to their table, providing the perfect pairing for the bar's cocktail menu. This is a significant service highlight, as it allows for a complete food and drink experience in one location.
Dine-in: The bar's physical space is set up for patrons to dine and drink on-site, with seating available for a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Restrooms: The establishment provides restrooms for the convenience of its guests.
These services, particularly the seamless integration of a separate food concept, make for a well-rounded and appealing experience for customers.
Mixteca’s key highlights are what set it apart in New York’s competitive bar scene.
Agave-Focused Cocktails: The bar’s cocktail program is centered on agave spirits, including tequila, mezcal, bacanora, and raicilla. The menu features creative and unique concoctions, with one customer raving about the "spicy margarita." The bar’s approach is to showcase the versatility of agave, offering drinks that are both innovative and delicious.
Strategic Partnership with Tacos 1986: The collaboration with Tacos 1986 is a major feature. It allows guests to enjoy acclaimed, authentic tacos with their drinks, a combination that has been highly praised in early reviews. This partnership creates a dynamic duo of food and drink that is a major draw for the crowd.
Welcoming and Knowledgeable Staff: Customer reviews consistently praise the staff. Bartenders like Jon and Hannah are noted for their excellent service and ability to "guide" customers through the cocktail experience. Another customer specifically thanks Cecilia for her recommendations, highlighting a friendly and helpful staff that enhances the overall visit.
Vibe and Atmosphere: Described as a "neighborhood gem," Mixteca offers a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Unlike its sister establishment, the famous speakeasy PDT, Mixteca is more casual and street-facing with large windows, making it an approachable and inviting spot for a variety of occasions, from a quick drink to a more extended evening out.

August 24 · Brianna ChanphimarnI love the food and drinks, the spicy margarita is really good. Thanks Cecilia for your recommendations, she’s the best. She made me have an amazing time here. Definitely I’m going back.
August 24 · Yuri ZeledonCreated this location on Google Maps specifically so I could rave about how much I like it here. Went opening day and it seemed to already be running like a well oiled drink machine. I recommend the Vampiro for a fun little decoration/souvenir. 🦷🧛🏻♂️ Supposedly you could order tacos from next-door, but I had already filled up on tequila. Oops. There are worse problems to have. Will be back!
August 21 · Briana FaheyMixteca is so delightful! My brother and I went on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a delicious Strawberry Margarita and a Carajillo. The quesadillas are unique, cheap, and especially yummy with the spicy salsa. Youdee, our server was so sweet and made the visit all the more special. Thank you!
September 06 · Bijan MooreAlways a fan of a tequila/mezcal focused bar and this spot offers a great selection of cocktails with varying profiles. Food menu basically is from the taqueria next door. Good vibes.
