Nancy's Towne House Introduce
For residents and visitors in New Jersey searching for a genuinely authentic, time-honored Italian-American dining experience, look no further than Nancy's Towne House in Rahway. This establishment is more than just a pizza restaurant; it is a Union County institution with deep roots and a historic atmosphere that transports diners to a bygone era. Opened in 1944, the restaurant has served the local community for decades, and its current owner, Nancy Knudsen, who worked for the previous owners before taking the helm, has successfully preserved the handed-down, famous recipes, including their celebrated thin-crust pizza. The atmosphere is frequently described as casual, cozy, and historic, featuring a unique subterranean dining room and bar, often adorned with charming red-checked tablecloths. It’s a place where the community—locals, groups, and even tourists—gather to enjoy quality comfort food and excellent service, reflecting a true "family affair" with Nancy’s children also working at the restaurant.
Nancy's Towne House is renowned for its exceptional and distinct thin-crust pizza, a highlight that has garnered attention from local enthusiasts and even national personalities. However, the menu extends far beyond their famous pies, offering a comprehensive selection of Italian-American classics. Diners can explore a wide variety of starters, specialty pastas, chicken, veal, and seafood dinners, ensuring there is a dish to satisfy every craving. Favorites include the Hot Antipasto For Two, Steamed Mussels, Homemade Lasagna, Chicken Parmigiana, and Veal Marsala. The children’s menu is also a thoughtful addition, featuring classic kid-friendly options like Chicken Fingers and Cheese Ravioli, making it an ideal destination for families in the Rahway area. The dedication to quality is clear: meatballs are homemade, and sauces are reportedly made to order, maintaining the high standards of the restaurant's lengthy history.
Nancy's Towne House is conveniently located in the vibrant downtown district of Rahway, making it easily accessible for Union County residents and those traveling via mass transit. The exact address is 1453 Main St, Rahway, NJ 07065, USA. Its location is often noted for being very convenient to local attractions, including the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC). For expanded parking availability, both paid street parking and a large paid parking garage across the street offer convenient solutions. The establishment's proximity to the train station further enhances its accessibility.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We visited Nancy's Towne House on a Saturday night and got lucky with the last table for two (quite small) at 5:30 pm. By 5:45pm, it was a full house (bar seating taken too!), so this place is clearly a local favorite! We went with the original large cheese pizza. While the sauce didn’t quite hit the mark for me personally, I’d still rate it a solid 7.9 (Dave Portnoy gave it an 8.8!). The Buffalo wings were stellar & definitely a highlight. Shoutout to Arielle, the manager, who was quick and on top of everything, and to Chloe, our sweet waitress, who gave great advice and told us a large pizza and Buffalo wings would be more than enough; she was right! The charm of the place (it gave me New England vibes, maybe Maine?) is the perfect backdrop to a cozy, enjoyable experience. Can’t wait to come back and try the Drunken Chicken Parm! Highly recommend this spot :)
October 06 · Hao WeinmannThe crust is thin, crunchy and flaky. Base is dry but not burnt. Cheese and sauce is good, cheese was a bit lighter on one of my pies. I think my pizzas didn’t come out as good as some others I see posted on here. One of mine had more cheese than the other too. Good plain pies but I feel like the crust is what makes it different, cheese and sauce do not really stand out. The restaurant has a unique bar feel, parking lot in the back is small.
May 23 · Tim SzetoWe had a take out pepperoni pie that we ate at the Wet Ticket Brewery's beergarden (located a few doors down or next door) during a concert of the Pennyless Loafers. What made me think about going back to Nancy's Towne House is the good vibes I got when picking up the pizza( thin crust, crisspy, freshly made) and the stories told by a Rahway native and her date dining there while we wait for our order pick up. It's an old school Italian kitchen. Definitely, a gem hidden in plain sight. Courteous; down-to-earth staff. I can only talk about the Rome style thin crust pizza but soon should be able to try other dishes. Until then, I'll hold my horses.
August 06 · El Perro PapoSuper cute little Italian restaurant. Loved the pizza and all the appetizers we tried. Service was welcoming and kind, everything was handled even though it was super busy and we were a big party. Would recommend! Probably make a reservation though because it was a week night and still packed.
May 13 · DeannaAbsolutely love Nancy’s! This is my 7 year old son’s favorite place to eat. The crispy crust just mouth watering. Delicious appetizers and pasta dishes. Super friendly staff and great service. It’s a cozy, laid-back spot that’s perfect for a casual dinner. Highly recommend if you’re a pizza lover!❤️
