For New Yorkers in the Bronx, National Bakery presents itself as an essential local resource. What truly makes it worth choosing is its sheer breadth of offerings under one roof. Unlike specialized cafes or delis, National Bakery fulfills multiple roles: it’s your morning coffee spot, your lunch sandwich provider, and your resource for baked goods for a family dinner. The acceptance of SNAP/EBT payments is a powerful community-focused feature, ensuring that high-quality, fresh food—from staple breads and rolls to a hot breakfast—is within reach for a greater number of people.
While customer feedback about custom cake decorations should be considered when ordering complex designs, the core product—the baked goods themselves—are often well-regarded for their authentic flavor and freshness, including popular items like the Dominican cake (often praised for its taste). For those looking to order a specialty cake, sticking to their pre-made or simple designs, as recommended by some reviewers, is a path to a delicious and moist celebratory centerpiece.
Ultimately, choosing National Bakery is choosing local convenience and variety. Whether you need a simple bagel with butter, a hefty Cuban sandwich for lunch, or a selection of fresh danish pastries for the office, this Bronx staple offers reliable, quick, and accessible service, making it a valuable and practical stop for daily needs in the neighborhood. Its integration into the local community, evidenced by its accessibility features and payment flexibility, solidifies its position as a go-to spot on Westchester Avenue.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I wouldn’t get a cake like this for my worst enemy… I asked for a simple white cake with a shell borders and writing on the top of the cake. I wanted to border to be lavender and writing to be light green. These people assured me they would be able to complete my very simple request. I have messages of them assuring me. They provided me with a neon green and neon pink cake with probably the ugliest borders and the ugliest penmanship ever. There were random squiggly lines on the border which was like a 1 year old drew on the cake. The picture I provided was a elegant simple cake and they could not even do that. I really do wonder how businesses like these stay in business. Who even goes to them? The cake was so dry and looked moldy. I feel like I poisoned my family and friends by having them try this cake. When I picked up the cake- I was completely shocked. My jaw fell to the floor. It is the ugliest cake I’ve ever seen in my life. Do better national bakery. I want my money back.
July 22 · Keya MosannaI bought a Dominican cake for my dad’s birthday and I gave them a picture for the inspiration it was an easy design and they gave me something that looks nothing like what I ordered. And they left paper on the cake because “it would have stained the white frosting” like what? Don’t order cakes from there other than what they already have done. People said the cake tastes good so at least that was worth the money but design wise they are bad.
June 17 · La_unica_vickyI had a terrible experience at this bakery. My brother paid for a cake for my mom’s 60th birthday, which is also on Christmas, making it a very special occasion for our family. When I picked up the cake, they had misspelled her name, even though I had clearly spelled it out multiple times: N-A-T-I-V-I-D-A-D. The staff member kept asking me how to spell it, and I repeated myself several times. Somehow, they still wrote it wrong with an ‘M’ instead of an ‘N’ even though the order ticket was correct. The staff member asked me AGAIN how to spell it while trying to fix it, but she took offense when I clarified. She even asked me if there was a ‘D’ at the end of her name 🤦🏻♀️ like you can’t be serious…She eventually corrected the mistake, but the fix was sloppy and unsightly. She didn’t even smooth out the frosting. The name looked messy, and the cake felt rushed. This was such an important occasion, and they didn’t care enough to get it right. I wouldn’t recommend this bakery to anyone looking for quality or professionalism. It was such a letdown! Do not spend your hard earn money here! The only thing that was tasty was the frosting. The cake itself was very dry— totally not worth the money.
January 06 · NathalieI passed by to get a simple coffee. What a waste. They basically gave me a cup of warm milk and hot mud water. Coffee does not have any flavor. Its a hard pass for me.
March 12 · Ricardo HodgsonI ordered a Minnie Mouse cake and cupcakes for my daughter’s first birthday party. The cake was ugly. The cupcakes were not what I ordered at all . Like literally nothing on the cupcakes looked like what I ordered. When I went to pick them up the girl gave me the blankest stare when questioned about how it looked. It was if she couldn’t talk. Don’t buy a slice of bread from this place. It’s probably moldy.
