this place is great. I do have to say the wait to get in is not ideal and I think you can get great dim sum at many places in Chinatown. maybe even better than here. the egg rolls are very interesting a soft creamy center wrapped in thin egg and tossed in batter and fried. I loved them but not for everyone. also loved the shrimp and onion shu mai. pan fried dumplings were great as well. - Bethany Cardona

Nom Wah Tea Parlor Introduce

For over a century, Nom Wah Tea Parlor has been a cornerstone of New York City's Chinatown, a living piece of history that continues to charm and satisfy generations of diners. In a city where restaurants come and go, Nom Wah has not only endured but thrived, becoming a celebrated institution for its authentic dim sum and timeless appeal. It's the kind of place that New Yorkers love to share with friends and family, a testament to its enduring quality and unique character. From its humble beginnings as a bakery and tea parlor in 1920, it has evolved into a full-service restaurant that maintains a cozy, historic, and trendy atmosphere.

Nom Wah Tea Parlor stands out for its commitment to serving fresh, made-to-order dim sum, a departure from the traditional cart service found in many other establishments. This approach ensures that every dish, from the Shanghainese Soup Dumplings to the Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings, arrives at your table hot and flavorful. The menu is a carefully curated selection of classic dim sum favorites, as well as unique dishes that have become signatures of the establishment, such as the Original "OG" Egg Roll. This dedication to quality and a simplified ordering process makes the dining experience more streamlined and enjoyable, especially for first-time visitors who might be overwhelmed by the traditional dim sum cart experience.

The restaurant’s history is a significant part of its allure. Located on the famed Doyers Street, a curved lane once nicknamed the "Bloody Angle" for its gang history, Nom Wah offers a glimpse into old-world Chinatown. The lovingly preserved vintage decor, including classic red leather booths and tin ceilings, creates a nostalgic and authentic vibe that makes every visit feel like a step back in time. While the wait to get in can sometimes be long, especially on weekends, many New Yorkers and visitors agree that the experience is well worth it. The blend of a historic setting with a consistently delicious menu makes Nom Wah Tea Parlor an essential stop for anyone seeking a truly memorable culinary and cultural experience in the city.

Nom Wah Tea Parlor is located at 13 Doyers St, New York, NY 10013, USA. Doyers Street is a unique, famously curved street in the heart of Chinatown, making the restaurant's location both iconic and easy to find for those familiar with the area. Its central position makes it a convenient destination for a diverse crowd, including college students, families, groups, and tourists exploring the neighborhood.

In terms of accessibility, the restaurant has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and wheelchair-accessible seating, making it a welcoming place for all diners. While parking can be challenging in this bustling part of Manhattan, paid street parking is available, and the location is easily reached via multiple subway lines.
