Omakase Ichi Introduce
For discerning palates in the New York region, Omakase Ichi represents a significant and welcome addition to the local fine dining scene, specifically establishing itself as Staten Island's premier destination for the authentic Japanese omakase experience. The term "omakase" translates to "I leave it up to you," signifying a multi-course, chef-selected tasting menu that showcases the freshest, highest-quality ingredients available daily. This particular restaurant has garnered strong praise from local patrons for successfully bringing this typically Manhattan-centric, high-end culinary art form to the borough at a truly competitive price point.
Located on Amboy Road, Omakase Ichi is not just a place to eat sushi; it is a commitment to a sensory journey. The core of the experience is the chef's artistry and precision, with each dish—from delicate appetizers to expertly torched nigiri—meticulously crafted to highlight the pure, natural flavors of the sea. Customers frequently describe the offerings as featuring fabulous tasting components, presented with stunning visual appeal. The intimate setting, often featuring a counter-style seating arrangement, allows New Yorkers to witness the chefs' techniques up close, enhancing the unique, personalized nature of the meal.
Local users consistently note that Omakase Ichi provides unbeatable food quality and taste for the price, distinguishing it within the wider New York omakase landscape. They are a game-changer for Staten Island, offering an experience that previously required a trip across the harbor. The focus is on fresh, beautiful presentation and an overall memorable event, whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to indulge in one of the city's most refined culinary traditions. The menu is structured to surprise and delight, blending traditional Japanese craftsmanship with seasonal ingredients.
Omakase Ichi is strategically located at 3936 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10308. This address places the restaurant in the Great Kills neighborhood of Staten Island, making it a convenient and local option for residents of the South Shore and beyond. Its presence on a major Staten Island thoroughfare ensures relatively straightforward navigation.
The restaurant's location is a key factor in its appeal to New Yorkers who appreciate high-end dining without the need to drive into Manhattan. For those traveling by car, there is often ample parking available in the vicinity, which is a significant convenience when compared to the parking challenges of other boroughs. While the area is accessible via local Staten Island buses, the location in the Great Kills neighborhood makes it an easy trip for many residents of the island seeking a refined evening out. As a specialty omakase establishment, Omakase Ichi focuses on a singular, elevated dining experience that is both intimate and highly personalized.
- Intimate Dine-in Experience: The primary service offered is the multi-course omakase tasting menu, typically conducted at a small sushi counter, providing direct interaction with the chefs.
- Reservations Required: Due to the limited seating capacity (often around 10 counter seats) and specific time slots, reservations are essential to secure a seat for this high-demand culinary experience.
- Curated Seasonal Menu: The core offering is the chef-selected menu, which changes based on the freshest seasonal ingredients, often sourced daily to ensure peak flavor and quality.
- Beverage Pairings: The restaurant often offers thoughtfully curated drink pairings, including various sakes (though some patrons suggest a preference for different serving temperatures/vessels) and other options, to complement the distinct flavors of the sushi and other courses.
Omakase Ichi’s distinction in the New York dining landscape is built on several key features that enhance its status as a must-visit local spot.
- Authentic Omakase Experience on Staten Island: It is highly regarded by locals for offering a true, high-quality omakase experience, a format historically concentrated in Manhattan, at a more approachable price point than many major city rivals.
- Exceptional Ingredient Quality: Patrons consistently praise the freshness and quality of the fish, with some pieces, like uni (sea urchin) and various cuts of tuna (toro), frequently highlighted as standouts.
- Calm and Intimate Atmosphere: The setting is described as a calm space with a modern, speakeasy feel, perfect for a deeply focused and romantic or contemplative meal.
- Artful Presentation: Every course is noted for its beautiful, artful presentation, with dishes frequently described as masterpieces that harmonize flavors and textures.
- Special Occasion Value: Due to the quality and price value, it is considered an excellent choice for celebrating special occasions without the logistical hassle of traveling far outside the local area.
- Seasonal Focus: The chef's commitment to using seasonal ingredients provides a fresh, ever-evolving dining journey that encourages repeat visits from local food enthusiasts.
- Dedicated Service: The staff, including the chefs and front-of-house team, are noted for being friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable, often providing explanations for each course and enhancing the overall hospitable experience.

For any New Yorker seeking an unparalleled Japanese dining experience, choosing Omakase Ichi is an investment in culinary excellence and a memorable evening. The single most compelling reason to visit is the dedication to the omakase tradition itself. This is not the place for an à la carte sushi roll; it is a venue for those ready to entrust their meal completely to the chef's expertise. The value proposition here is particularly strong for the New York market. Customers acknowledge the pricing is fair—even "unbeatable"—for the superior quality of the ingredients and the refined preparation that is being offered locally.
Specific highlights mentioned by local diners that make the meal truly worthwhile include the unique and delicate presentation of certain courses, such as the "feathery crab in a crispy tart vessel" or the "scallop surprise" served in a smooth broth. These dishes illustrate the creativity and technical skill of the chefs, moving beyond standard nigiri to offer true moments of gastronomic innovation. The dining environment also contributes significantly to the choice; the small, intimate setting creates a focused and calm space that feels distinct from the typical hustle and bustle of a New York restaurant.
Furthermore, in a city where proximity is a premium, Omakase Ichi provides Staten Islanders with a top-tier, fine dining Japanese option right in their neighborhood. This convenience, combined with the assurance of fresh, beautiful, and delicious food that is highly praised for being on par with Manhattan establishments, makes it the definitive choice for a luxurious but accessible culinary escape. For those willing to embrace the pace of a true tasting menu and the chef's seasonal vision, Omakase Ichi is undoubtedly one of Staten Island’s best dining choices.

September 07 · Analia GerardI'm giving Omakase Ichi 5 Stars for being the best Omakase option in Staten Island. For the price the food quality and taste is unbeatable. There are rooms for improvements:1. the dining pace is a bit fast, slow down a bit would be nice2. more hot sake option, there is only 1 at this point and it is warmed up by microwaving it. There are hot sake dispensers that can be used instead of microwaving. Also the hot sake gets cold fast, need something better to maintain the temp.3. my personal preference, i prefer my cold sake in a sake bamboo cup or some other sake cup. Cold sake is in a wine glass and it got warm fast.I look forward to dine here again when they have a new menu. I prefer a seasonal menu. I understand some patrons wants uni and wagyu. Seasonal is fresher and more sustainable.
September 19 · Kevin WWhat a fun & unique experience. Very intimate, curious, and eager to taste. The chefs were beautifully in sync, like a ballet. The food was fresh & well presented as separate art pieces. Chefs were also endearing, clever & easy to converse with. Only issue was that my friend and i agreed some of the courses looked/tasted very similar but beautiful, nonetheless. The female hostess was so nice & knowledgeable as well, she was so cool engaging with us too without asking. Shows just how much they appreciate the quality & diners of this experience. Loved every minute!
June 03 · Jo SoKaSushi was delicious and fresh. Chefs and staff were very welcoming and friendly. The vibe and decor in the restaurant was cozy. Would definitely come here again.
August 16 · Jennifer WuIf you are a fan of Sushi or Omakase this place is a MUST to go to. This is one of Staten Island's best kept secrets. Reservations are necessary and I would recommend showing up 10-15 minutes prior.
