Oren’s Coffee Introduce
In the bustling and competitive coffee scene of New York City, Oren's Coffee has long stood out as a destination for serious coffee lovers. More than just a simple coffee shop, Oren's is an institution that has built its reputation on a deep commitment to sourcing and roasting high-quality, specialty-grade coffee beans. For over three decades, the brand has been a trusted name for those who appreciate the art and science of a truly great cup of coffee. The location at 2882 Broadway is a testament to this legacy, serving as a convenient and reliable spot for the residents of the Upper West Side and the academic community of Columbia University. While many coffee shops focus on the cafe experience, Oren's sets itself apart by being an esteemed roaster first and foremost, a detail that is not lost on its loyal customers. This focus on the bean itself—from its origin to its roast—is what elevates Oren's Coffee from a simple pit stop to a true purveyor of fine coffee.
The core of Oren's appeal lies in the quality of its coffee beans. The brand is a pioneer in the New York coffee scene, with a history of sourcing directly from farmers and roasting on-site, a practice that was rare when it first began in 1986. A long-time consumer of their beans praised the "quality" as "quite nice," putting it in the same league as other highly respected roasters. Their menu of coffee beans is extensive and impressive, ranging from popular blends like the "NYC Blend" and "Oren's Special Blend" to a wide variety of single-origin and decaf options, including a Swiss Water Process decaf that maintains the original flavor of the bean. This meticulous approach to sourcing and roasting ensures that the coffee sold by the pound is of the highest caliber, making it a favorite for home brewers and coffee enthusiasts who appreciate freshness and a wide selection. The in-store experience at the 2882 Broadway location, however, is a point of mixed feedback. While the quality of the beans themselves is consistently lauded, some customers have noted that the "in store coffee quality is quite inconsistent," with cups being "sour, bitter, plain." This contrast highlights the dual identity of Oren's: a top-tier roaster that also operates a bustling, high-traffic retail location.
Despite the occasional variance in in-store drink quality, the coffee shop still maintains a strong local following, largely due to its efficient service and the quality of its non-coffee offerings. A review noted "good coffee, no fuss service" and the ability to be "in and out quickly even when there is a line." This speed and efficiency are highly valued in the fast-paced New York environment. The menu also includes "good diet friendly pastry options and fun syrups and seasonal drinks," which adds to its appeal as a convenient neighborhood spot. The presence of a "good rewards program" encourages repeat visits, building a loyal community of customers who appreciate the value and benefits. The coffee shop also sells a variety of brewing gear and merchandise, catering to both the casual drinker and the home brewing enthusiast. The commitment to providing a quick and easy experience, combined with the excellent quality of the beans and a variety of additional offerings, solidifies its position as a go-to spot in the neighborhood for a convenient and reliable coffee run. The positive feedback on its compostable straws, which are noted for being thick and holding up well, is a small but telling detail about the care and thought put into the overall customer experience.

Oren’s Coffee Reviews
I am a long-time consumer of Oren’s coffee beans, from the specialty orange label super fragrant, fruity Colombia beans to Jamaica Blue Mountain to Swiss water decaf. I almost tried everything. I’d say their quality is quite nice, probably only Sey coffee and red bricks from UK can top it. As a roaster, I love them. But the in store coffee quality is quite inconsistent. I had sour, bitter, plain coffee, but never had a good cup.
June 09 · Yunong ShiGood coffee, no fuss service, I am in and out quickly even when there is a line. Good diet friendly pastry options and fun syrups and seasonal drinks. My favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood. Good rewards program tooEditing to add they have my favorite kind of compostable straw!! Thick and holds up, not paper. The best!
November 22 · Lauren CarrBased on previous reviews and my personal experience, that big-boned white male cashier should really be fired; idk why you guys kept him there for almost more than 2 years now.- He rarely looks up or be responsive / interactive with customers.- Every time I present my student ID for a discount, he would ask to see my student ID without looking up. That is after me seeing him almost daily at some point with my student ID. I knew him well enough that I always take my student ID out and present it readily for him to see, but he manages to not look up enough that I had to tell him every time that I was holding my student ID right there. One time I was holding it closer to his view hoping he would just see it instead of asking it again, and then he just yelled at me be like "dont put it up against my face!"- He started doing this thing that all his drinks are so milked down every time. Maybe he just puts in one less shot than everyone else or something. And for some reason the coffees been tasting very bitter lately. Maybe time to finally switch on from Oren's... Oren's coffee is approaching Pret's level at this point but Pret's 30 something dollars a month...
June 21 · personal-external-reachout-no-identityTake out coffee spot. I paid $4 for a black 16oz Drip. Good coffee, I did not see any boutique offerings listed but I was in a rush. The drip was well brewed and satisfying. The blend seemed on the lighter side with citrus notes and slight acidity. Very decent for a standard drip.
May 06 · Jay O'BrienDropping a 5 star specifically for their beans. Oren’s seems to have the most consistently delicious and reasonably priced beans of anywhere I’ve been in the city. Recently moved back to upper west side after living out in williamsburg, where most of the coffee shops seemed to value style over substance (with some notable and often overpriced exceptions). Every bag from Oren’s - mixes and single origins - has been a really nicely balanced roast and never more than week or two out from roast date. And sometime they stock really special beans - they have a $$$ yirgachefe every now and then that literally tastes like blue berries. And the rewards points are nice too.Happy that this is my local shop again.
