Raku Introduce
In a city celebrated for its endless culinary diversity, finding a restaurant that specializes in a single dish and elevates it to an art form is a true delight. Raku, a renowned udon noodle restaurant, has done just that, establishing itself as a must-visit destination for Japanese cuisine lovers in New York City. At its core, Raku is an homage to the iconic Japanese comfort food, the humble udon noodle. The restaurant crafts voluminous bowls of chewy, silky noodles served in rich, flavorful dashi soup, showcasing a level of craftsmanship and dedication that has earned it a loyal following. Beyond its signature udon, Raku offers a curated menu of appetizers, sushi, and donburi, all prepared with the same commitment to quality and authenticity. This focus on a few key areas allows Raku to perfect every dish, providing an experience that is both satisfyingly traditional and refreshingly modern. The atmosphere is designed to be casual, cozy, and trendy, making it a perfect spot for a variety of occasions, from a quick solo lunch to a relaxed dinner with friends. The collaboration with Pâtisserie Fouet for an exquisite dessert menu adds another layer of sophistication to the dining experience, making Raku a comprehensive and memorable stop for anyone seeking a taste of Japan in New York.
While some diners have noted that the restaurant can get crowded, a testament to its popularity, the overall consensus is that the quality of the food and the speed of service make it well worth a visit. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Stopped by for lunch on a weekend around 2pm. No wait, was able to get a booth right away.Uni sushi was excellent - very creamy and fresh. We got cold noodles, and I LOVED the thin noodles. The texture was also amazing.I would go back to try other dishes, especially their udon.
July 26 · A. K.Was very excited to eat here, but was disappointed before even taking the first bite. The restaurant is very crowded so I was sitting shoulder to shoulder between two other people. With it being so crowded, I could barely talk to the person in front of me. The food quality did not make the experience better. The wagyu sushi was very tough and bland, the tantan ramen was not tasty. The zaru was not too bad, but a small portion. I have had better elsewhere. The tempura was soggy, not the slightest crunch existed. Overall, it was a cramped and bad tasting meal. Would NOT recommend.
August 15 · Jaelee JA very welcoming ambience. Highly recommended by a local. It was her favorite ramen place in NY and it did not disappoint. Recommend to get a reservation as place really fills up quickly. Servings were generous and dishes were flavorful. Highly recommend the agedashi tofu. Love too how the facade of the building is so simple.
April 03 · Manette HidalgoNice ambiance, good service and food is average. For appetizers, the Chicken Tatsuta-Age was good—huge chunks of chicken, tender inside yet crispy outside, dipping sauce had a spicy kick. Pork Gyoza was okay, lots of onions though. Spicy Cucumber was way too spicy. Agedashi Tofu and Otsumami were decent. For entrees, I did not enjoy the Donburi Katsu Don—the deep fried cutlet was drenched in some sweet sauce, making the cutlet soggy and too sweet for my preference—portion was huge though. My friend thought her Wagyu Sukiyaki Hot Udon was just average.
April 16 · Vy H.Chance upon this place in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s both a pastry and noodle shop which is quite a large place in the neighborhood. The decor is very simple and there is a long shared table at the center with cubicles on the sides. Ordered the bits shabu for my main - cold noodles with trips of pork belly cucumber and daikon sprouts with a side of white creamy sauce. It tasted well and not too salty. Had the mango cheesecake which was just ok. The cheese part was a bit hard and the layer of mango at the bottom seems too little to appreciate.
