Rubby Introduce
In the bustling and often-pricy neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, where dining options can feel endless, finding a genuine, no-frills spot that offers both quality and value can be a challenge. Rubby is one such place, a true hidden gem that has carved out a special niche for itself by offering a unique and satisfying combination of pizza and Dominican comfort food. This casual and unpretentious restaurant is not about elaborate decor or a fancy atmosphere; it's about the food. As one customer review perfectly put it, "Don’t come here for frills, just the food." This straightforward approach is a breath of fresh air in a city that often prioritizes presentation over substance. Rubby is a place where locals can get a hearty, well-seasoned meal without breaking the bank, a rare and valuable commodity in New York City. The fusion of Italian-American pizza with classic Dominican dishes, all prepared by a Dominican chef, creates a culinary experience that is both unexpected and deeply satisfying. This article will delve into what makes Rubby a worthwhile destination for anyone in New York looking for a delicious, quick bite or a full, comforting meal.
The menu at Rubby is an interesting blend of two distinct culinary traditions. While it is categorized as a pizza restaurant, the reviews suggest that its Dominican dishes are just as, if not more, popular with its loyal customer base. The food is celebrated for being "well-seasoned," with particular praise for the fried pork chops and the beans, which are noted for being "always good." The pizza, while mentioned less frequently in reviews, is an integral part of the restaurant's identity, offering a classic option for those who prefer Italian-American fare. The combination of these two cuisines means there's something for almost everyone, whether you're craving a cheesy slice or a savory, home-cooked meal. The affordability is another major selling point, with customers marveling at the value offered, especially in New York City's current economic climate. This commitment to providing great food at a reasonable price is a key part of Rubby's appeal, making it a go-to spot for a satisfying and budget-friendly lunch or dinner. It is a place that prioritizes flavor and substance, offering dishes that are both comforting and memorable.

For many New Yorkers, this kind of place is a welcome change from the polished, and sometimes sterile, environments of more upscale restaurants. It’s a space where the focus is on a good meal and a quick bite, not on a lengthy, elaborate dining process. This casual and straightforward atmosphere, combined with the tasty food, creates an inviting environment that is "good for kids" and welcoming to anyone who values a great plate of food over a flashy setting.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1$13.50 for all of this. In this economy?! Don’t come here for frills, just the food. The chef is Dominican so it’s Dominican food and pizza. Never had their pizza. Always get this or something like their fried pork chops. There’s some off days but there’s a few things that they get right every time. Well seasoned and the beans are always good! They could definitely renovate and clean a bit better but it’s nyc.
May 16 · Thatsso LuluGood service, good pancake’s (Igor the flight), it’s a bit pricy though
August 02 · H MoussaouiLove this place. Best bang for your hard earned buck. If you give a bad review you just don't get it. This place is always worth a stop.
August 04 · Jose RodriguezSpanish speaking pizza and Caribbean food. Place looks very dark and even dirty. Service very friendly but pizza single slice ($2) taste with nothing. Not pizza, no souse, no cheese, no dough, just some tasteless pizza-ash looking triangle.
October 12 · Pavel PushPizza was okay. Leaving 1 star because one of the employees sneezed TWICE without covering their nose, around food at that! I told another worker to let him know to cover his nose and the guy tells me “we have 3 shots.” Sir, COVID isn’t the only thing people can catch… smh! These are well-grown adults mind you. The place is also very unsanitary and visually dirty. Old chairs (PLURAL) with NAILS rising above them. Major red flags. It’s pretty obvious that I’ll never be coming back..
