Sardi's Introduce
For nearly a century, Sardi's has been more than just a restaurant; it has been a New York institution, an iconic part of the city's theatrical soul. Located at 234 W 44th St, in the very heart of the Theater District, Sardi's is a living tribute to the glamour and history of Broadway. The moment you step inside, you are immersed in a timeless atmosphere, with a decor that evokes a sense of old-world elegance. The ambiance is both historic and upscale, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. The centerpiece of the restaurant's charm is its collection of over a thousand caricatures of Broadway celebrities, a tradition that began in the 1920s. These framed portraits, which cover the walls of all four floors, are a visual history of American show business, making a meal here feel like a journey through time.
Sardi's is famously known as the place to be for a pre-theater meal, and for good reason. The staff is exceptionally well-trained to ensure that patrons are served in time for their curtain call. As one reviewer noted, the "high staff-to-diner ratio" and "attentive" service make for an efficient and stress-free dining experience. This level of professionalism is a major highlight, as it allows theatergoers to enjoy a leisurely and delicious meal without the worry of being late for their show. The restaurant also stays open late, catering to the Broadway community and theater lovers who want to grab a bite or a drink after a performance.
The cuisine at Sardi's is described as Continental, a diverse and classic menu that includes a range of appetizers, salads, and main courses. While some have debated the food's status as a culinary destination, many reviews praise its quality, with dishes like the classic cannelloni au gratin being a long-standing favorite. The menu includes something for everyone, from an Angus burger to orange teriyaki glazed broiled salmon, and a solid selection of vegetarian options. The drinks are also a notable feature, with guests commending the "great cocktails" and a well-curated "wine list." This blend of historic ambiance, exceptional service, and reliable, high-quality food makes Sardi's an essential New York experience, transcending its function as a simple restaurant to become a part of a theatrical tradition.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A theater tradition! The food is delicious and the service is exeptional. They know their patrons don't want to be late for curtain time, so they've hired a giant staff to work the room. I have never seen such a high staff-to-diner ratio at a restaurant. The drinks were strong, the staff attentive and you'll get to experience some Broadway tradition.
August 06 · Stan RifkenThe food was good and the drinks were as well. We enjoyed ourselves before the Sunset Blvd show. Probably it was a little on the noisier side, but it did quiet down before 7 pm, our show started at 8 so we enjoyed some quiet time too. The waiters changed without any notice which seemed a bit odd.
July 26 · Dumitrita Paladi ContesWhat a great way to end the evening after seeing my first Broadway play. The staff was very pleasant and accommodated us - two of us were very late for our reservation. Our friend placed our order for us before the kitchen closed. The waitress was very patient and didn't rush us.We ordered three different dishes, a tomato soup, a salad and two cocktails. I enjoyed everything! The prices weren't too bad, about $25 minimum for a main dish. The salmon was so good!I'll definitely venture to Sardi's again to sample their other items.
April 17 · Jenita LawalMy daughter and I have a fabulous pre-show dinner at Sardi’s. Our waitress asked what our showtime was and was very attentive about getting us out on time. The atmosphere’s was convivial and joyous. A wonderful experience
August 30 · Sally LanfordWe have always heard of Sardi's as an institution and a packed, happening place where Broadway folks visit. We must have missed everybody because we were one of 3 tables in there. Because it was so empty, it felt very stiff and lacked any special quality. We were excited to have been there, but we won't go back. Prices were astronomical for what we actually ate and all of the caricatures on the wall really showed that this place only used to be great. At this point, it really just felt like a landmark that once you've seen and experienced it, there's no reason to go back.
