Shanghai Villa Introduce
In the heart of Greenwich Village, a neighborhood celebrated for its diverse and vibrant culture, you’ll find a true culinary treasure: Shanghai Villa. This Asian-owned restaurant is a beacon for those seeking an authentic taste of Shanghai right here in New York City. Unlike many Chinese restaurants that cater to a broad Americanized palate, Shanghai Villa stands out for its sincere and respectful approach to cultural culinary traditions. It’s a place where every dish tells a story, offering an experience that is both a comfort to those familiar with the cuisine and a delightful revelation for newcomers.
The atmosphere at Shanghai Villa is a perfect blend of casual comfort and trendy New York style. You'll also find the staff to be cordial and accommodating, adding to the excellent customer care that patrons rave about.
The menu is a deep dive into the rich flavors of Shanghainese and Szechuan cuisine. One of the biggest highlights is the "Dim Sum" section, featuring classics like the original Steamed Soup Dumpling and Mr. Da’s Seared Pork Buns, which are a must-try. The menu also offers a wide range of "From The Wok" dishes, including favorites like General Tso’s Chicken and Orange Chicken, but prepared with a delicate touch that avoids heavy sauces, allowing the true flavors to shine. For those seeking heartier fare, the "Shanghai Meets Szechuan" section offers impressive dishes like Grilled Lamb Chop and Five Seasoned Beef.
What truly sets Shanghai Villa apart is its extensive selection for various dietary preferences. The restaurant offers a remarkable array of vegetarian and vegan options, from Vegan Wonton Soup to Sweet & Sour Divine, and even soy-based "meats" like BBQ Seitan and Soy Buffalo Wings. This makes it an easy choice for groups with mixed dietary needs, ensuring that no one has to compromise on flavor. The menu also features a variety of refreshing beverages, from fresh-squeezed juices and bubble teas to a great selection of hot teas, coffee, and a small but thoughtful list of beer and wine.
The restaurant's commitment to excellence extends beyond its food and atmosphere. The service is fast and attentive, with a staff that is quick to anticipate needs and offer tempting choices. As one customer noted, the team "helps, stays humble, and maintains sincerity," making the entire dining experience feel personal and genuine. September 14 · Caro GeffroyServers anticipate needs while offering many tempting choices. You'll notice the excellent customer care and inviting feel. To add to the experience, the team was cordial and accommodating. Their dishes respect cultural culinary traditions. The place amazed me entirely.
August 28 · Olivia CeliceI'm genuinely shocked by the quality here. The employees displayed both kindness and respectful treatment. Every item warrants highest marks. The waiters were helpful, food arrived promptly, and everything was well-cooked. Look into this place!
August 29 · Ivan PoljakovI’ve been coming here since before the name change, and it’s still one of my favorite spots for vegan Chinese food. The flavors hit every time, and the menu has a ton of great options. It’s nice to see they’ve kept the same quality even with the new name. Super chill vibes, friendly staff, and always a solid meal. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into tasty plant-based food or otherwise the menu has something for everyone.
April 19 · Lana PoWe intended to go to a restaurant 2-3 lots down the road but it was packed and we didn't want to wait. So we walked back here and decided to try. We were impressed with the food and the service. Unbelievable that it was not busy. The background music was calm and we could have a conversation. We enjoyed our dinner here so much and would definitely come back again.Went back the second time and the waiter remembered us right away which is impressive.
