Sottocasa Introduce
Sottocasa Pizzeria in Brooklyn is more than just a place to grab a slice; it’s a genuine slice of Italian life right in the heart of the borough. Tucked away in the charming Boerum Hill neighborhood, this local favorite has established itself as a must-visit destination for New Yorkers seeking authentic Neapolitan-style pizza. The name itself, "Sottocasa," is an Italian idiom meaning "around the corner" or "very convenient," and that's exactly the welcoming, neighborhood-gem vibe that owners Luca and Mariarosa have cultivated. Their mission is simple: to bring the craft, love, and taste of Italy to Brooklyn.
Unlike many pizza joints, Sottocasa commits to a centuries-old technique, baking every pie in a two-ton, 1000℉ wood-fired oven, which was built and shipped directly from Naples. This incredible oven is the engine behind their signature pies, giving the crust its perfect char, light texture, and distinct coal oven flavor that aficionados rave about. Reviewers consistently describe the experience as enjoying the "best most authentic Italian pizza" in New York, with one even calling it a "spiritual experience." From the pillowy, airy crust (or cornicione) to the sweet, rich San Marzano tomato sauce, Sottocasa delivers an authentic taste that transports you straight to Italy.

What is Worth Choosing
Sottocasa is worth choosing for any New Yorker who values authenticity, quality, and a genuinely warm dining experience. It stands out in the Brooklyn culinary landscape by maintaining a high standard of classic Italian pizza-making, right down to the imported ingredients and the Neapolitan wood-fired oven. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and perfect for nearly any occasion, from a solo meal to a family gathering.
P
Their specialty is, undeniably, their pizza. The highly praised dough, which is allowed to sit and rise for 48 hours, results in a light, flavorful crust that is the foundation of their success. The sauce is consistently rated as fresh, clean, smooth, and rich. If you are a fan of Neapolitan-style pizza, you will appreciate the pillowy cornicione and the thin, sometimes "soupy" center—a sign of real, fresh mozzarella and authentic, homemade sauce, as one reviewer proudly points out. The selection of antipasti, particularly the Spinaci salad and the Focaccia with rosemary, serve as excellent starters to complement the main event.
P
Beyond the food, Sottocasa offers a great selection of craft beer and exclusively Italian wines, making it a stellar spot for those who appreciate a quality drink pairing with their meal. Whether you opt for a glass of Montepulciano with your Diavola, or an Italian microbrew with the Salsiccia, the drinks program enhances the entire dining experience. Finally, the accommodating nature of the restaurant—with ample vegan and vegetarian options, a top-rated gluten-free crust, and a welcoming environment for families and the LGBTQ+ community—makes it a true "neighborhood gem" and a reliable choice for delicious, comforting Italian food in New York City.

Don't miss the chance to experience a true taste of Italy "just around the corner" in Brooklyn.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Sottocasa is a real neighborhood gem that I need to remember to go to more often. I first came upon it while on a pizza tour of my neighborhood. It was easily the best of the pizza stops we tried out.Recommended:- SpinaciBaby Spinach, Ricotta, Almond, Mushrooms, Raisin, E.V.O.O. April 17 · LorenThis is, without a doubt, the best Neapolitan style pizza I've ever had. It was amazing. A spiritual experience. Seriously! I had the special, which included cherry tomatoes, burrata, prosciutto, and pesto. I wish I'd taken a better photo, but we devoured the pizza so quickly. Anyway, best pizza ever. Do yourself a favor and visit this place. The restaurant is really lovely as well, with cozy seating and friendly staff. I can't wait to go back.
June 16 · Emerita QuitoNo frills spot for some amazing pizza - couldn’t believe we didn’t come here sooner. It’s a cozy and relaxed vibe inside where you can have a variety of different pizza options to choose from. Don’t sleep on the tiramisu! Great quality all for a very fair price. Definitely looking forward to coming back!
April 20 · Andrew DabydeenThis was the first stop on our pizza tour. The staff was really nice and loved the water in bottles ready to take on the bar counter. The pizza was delicious. The place started to fill early. Would def eat here again.
April 13 · Susan McGowanBEST PIZZA IN NYC.I come here basically every single weekend, either to dine in or to pick up. And i do that not only because of course the pizza is REALLY REALLY good ( for me is the best in NYC, i think i tried most of them), but also because the staff is amazing and very welcoming.Whoever gave one star..go get yourself a vodka macaroni cheese pizza with pineapple.
