One of the most authentic Sri Lankan foods we have ever had from this restaurant. The food was so delicious and their customer service was on point. There were some items we wanted but weren't there, so the owner compensated for those items. The environment was great and it's a good place to hangout with friends and family. I would love to go there again! - Shany Thakur

What is Worth Choosing

For the ultimate Spicy Lanka experience, there are a few menu items and categories that are highly recommended by local New York patrons, showcasing the best of their authentic Sri Lankan fare.

A must-try dish is the Kingfish Lamprais, a signature Sri Lankan preparation. This is a complete, traditional meal of rice cooked in a stock (often yellow rice), served with an assortment of side dishes like curry, fried items (like a cutlet or fried egg), and sambols, all wrapped and baked in a banana leaf for an incredibly aromatic and tender result. The Kingfish Lamprais, specifically, offers a deep, savory seafood experience wrapped in this classic method.

Another culinary star is the Kothu Roti, a popular Sri Lankan street food. This dish involves chopping up godhamba roti (flatbread) and mixing it on a hot griddle with vegetables, eggs, and a choice of meat (such as beef, chicken, or mutton) and a complex blend of spices. The resulting texture and flavor explosion make the Beef Kothu a highly recommended choice for an authentic taste of Colombo street food.

For starters, the Appetizer Rolls are essential. The Fish Rolls and Mutton Rolls (priced at $6.00 and $8.00 for 3 pieces, respectively) are popular choices, offering a crisp, breaded exterior and a flavorful, spiced filling—perfect for a quick bite or to share. The Fish Cutlets ($6.00 for 4 pieces) are also praised for their delicate, spiced tuna and potato filling.

Finally, no authentic Sri Lankan meal is complete without dessert. The Watalappan is a decadent choice, described by patrons as an "incredibly delicious" baked custard. Made with coconut milk, cashews, and sweetened with kithul jaggery (palm sugar), this dessert provides the perfect creamy, sweet, and spiced conclusion to a fiery meal. The Kiri Pani (yogurt with palm honey) is also available for a lighter, tangy-sweet finish.

Spicy Lanka offers New Yorkers a rare opportunity to explore a cuisine often underrepresented in the city. With its commitment to authenticity, excellent service, and a diverse menu spanning Rice & Curry, Biryani, Lamprais, and Devilled dishes, it truly delivers a high-quality Sri Lankan dining experience in Richmond Hill. Whether you're a connoisseur of South Asian flavors or a first-timer seeking something new, Spicy Lanka is poised to become your next favorite neighborhood spot in Queens.
