What is Worth Choosing
Tacos Los Poblanos is a paradise for taco aficionados, offering one of the most comprehensive taco menus you’ll find in Brooklyn. With 17 distinct choices, navigating the selection might seem overwhelming, but a few specialties consistently draw the highest praise and attention from the local crowd.
For first-timers and seasoned fans alike, there are a few must-try items that truly showcase the restaurant's authentic flavors and cooking expertise:
The Al Pastor Taco:
A cornerstone of any great taqueria, the Al Pastor at Tacos Los Poblanos is one of the most popular items. This marinated pork, traditionally cooked on a vertical spit, or trompo, is served with the classic pineapple, cilantro, and onion toppings. It's a flavor profile that is both savory and slightly sweet, making it a highly recommended choice. While some may compare it to other prominent Brooklyn spots, this version is solid and often praised for its distinct marinade and preparation.
Tacos Rojos De Birria (and Birria Caldo):
Birria has become a sensation in NYC, and Tacos Los Poblanos offers its own take with the Tacos Rojos De Birria, alongside a comforting Birria Caldo (soup/broth). Birria is a rich, flavorful meat—in New York, it's typically beef—that is slow-cooked in a complex chili broth. The "Tacos Rojos" refers to the practice of dipping the tortilla in the broth before grilling it, resulting in a slightly crisp, crimson-colored taco. Paired with the Caldo for dipping, this offers an incredibly rich and immersive experience of Mexican comfort food. For only $8.00, the Caldo de Birria is a hearty and satisfying standalone option.
Carnitas Taco:
The Carnitas, or slow-cooked pulled pork, is another specialty, reflecting the restaurant's heritage near Puebla. Carnitas is known for its incredible tenderness and deep, savory flavor, making it a consistently well-regarded choice for those who love traditional Mexican pork preparations.
Traditional and Unique Cuts:
For the adventurous eater, Tacos Los Poblanos excels in offering less common but highly traditional taco meats. Options like the Lengua (Beef Tongue), Cabeza (Head Meat), Tripa (Tripe), Suadero (Rose-cut beef), and Buche (Pork Stomach) are prepared expertly, often garnering praise for their tenderness and authentic preparation. These choices provide an elevated street-food experience that can be hard to find elsewhere.
Beyond Tacos:
Don't overlook the other fantastic menu sections. The Cemitas, which are often large, hearty sandwiches served on a sesame seed roll, are a great choice for a more substantial meal. Similarly, the Burritos, all priced at a very reasonable $10.00, are highly satisfying and packed with your choice of meat. The Pollo Enchilado (Spicy Chicken) option in the burrito section is noted by customers for being a fantastic, tasty choice.
To complete the meal, be sure to ask for the homemade salsas. The Salsa Roja (red salsa) is specifically called out by patrons as a standout condiment that perfectly complements the rich flavor of the meats. Whether you're looking for a quick, cheap bite or a deeply authentic and satisfying Mexican meal, Tacos Los Poblanos on 5th Ave is a Brooklyn institution that continues to deliver true culinary comfort.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Some of the best mexican food i've had in the area.I ordered al pastor nachos and they were incredible! Also the service was great very nice people
March 28 · Guanchy LopezAwesome tacos, but the prices are a little high ($3 per taco), it is like $1 per bite on the tacos. their service is pretty great, they know a bit of English i think, but never had trouble ordering which is nice. it atmosphere is pretty nice with you just ordering, wait, and leave. But if you want you can order something there and wat at their truck. additionally they are usually really busy or not at all but it still does take a long time to get your food.
September 03 · some_duck_guy (kyle)I paid in full two weeks before they were supposed to arrive, while the other two food trucks I ordered I paid on arrival (which I highly recommend you do with any food trucks you hire). This taco truck arrived over half an hour late, with no steak, ran out of fish and shrimp, then had the audacity to charge 100's of dollars more afterwards. Food was ok, nothing that was talked about after our event. The other truck was talked about a great deal and never ran out of food. Be very careful hiring food trucks.
July 01 · James HaimovitzSooo good. I came across this spot by sheer accident. The tacos were all phenomenal. I started out with a few of the basic kinds; the chorizo, asada (grilled pork, and the birria…all three were so, on pint, delicious that I went in for a second round to try out some of the more “exotic” variations listed on their menu. The lengua was to die for!?!! The tripe was also really great. The buche was a bit on the dry side but otherwise all the other ones I tried I would totally recommend and definitely worth a try.Tbh, I can’t tell if it was the Mexican pork that I tried that was dry or the buche (pork stomach). The place did forget one of the tacos that I ordered during my second round. I was just curious about their more “exotic” selections since the more standard ones really were that good that the others were worth giving a chance to. Highly recommend nonetheless.
May 28 · Lena LI will go back here only because, the chorizo burrito is not like any other chorizo burrito I’ve had. It’s kind of like a breakfast sausage burrito without eggs. Very confusing.
