The Gold Room Introduce
In a city filled with countless places to grab a drink, The Gold Room stands out as a destination that offers much more than just a cocktail. Tucked away inside the magnificent Lotte New York Palace Hotel, this isn't just a bar; it's a living piece of New York City history. The Gold Room is located within the historic Villard Houses, a stunning architectural complex built in 1884 that has long been a symbol of Gilded Age opulence. As you enter the courtyard, which famously served as the residence of the Van der Woodsen family in the hit show "Gossip Girl," you are immediately transported to another era. The entire experience feels special, blending the grandeur of the past with a modern, elegant sensibility. The atmosphere is upscale, trendy, and incredibly cozy, making it a perfect spot for a romantic evening or a memorable outing with friends visiting the city. The Gold Room's ability to "perfectly blend history with modern elegance" makes it a rare and precious gem in a city that is always moving forward. It’s a place to both celebrate and simply admire the beauty around you.
The interior of The Gold Room is a visual masterpiece. As one patron described, "walking into The Gold Room is like stepping into a gilded jewel of New York’s architectural past." Its shimmering golden surfaces, classical artistry, and even a hidden musical balcony create an unforgettable and timeless atmosphere. The space itself is small yet cozy, and every detail, from the gilded ceilings to the finely crafted cocktails, feels "thoughtfully preserved and beautifully reimagined." It's one of those iconic settings that is both visually and experientially stunning. Beyond the bar itself, the surrounding courtyard of the Villard Houses is a key highlight, often featuring great decorations year-round that are perfect for photos. During the holidays, the courtyard transforms into a magical wonderland with a beautiful Christmas tree and other festive lights, making it "one of the best areas to visit" for anyone who loves the holiday season in New York. The beauty of the place, both inside and out, is what makes it a must-see for anyone who appreciates great design and a bit of history.
The drinks at The Gold Room are as impressive as the setting. The bar is known for its "great cocktails" and "great wine list," offering a wide variety of options for every palate. The cocktail menu is a thoughtful nod to New York's history and pop culture, with drinks named after iconic figures and landmarks like The Commodore, The Carnegie, The Mrs. Astor, and even Gossip Girl. These themed cocktails add a layer of storytelling to the experience, making each sip more meaningful. The menu also includes a selection of classic cocktails, ensuring that everyone can find their favorite. Beyond the drinks, The Gold Room offers an array of "shared plates" that are perfect for a sophisticated bite. The menu features elevated bar food like Black Truffle Frites and Villard Sliders, as well as more luxurious options such as Caviar and Oysters. Whether you're in the mood for a light snack or a full meal, the food menu complements the drink offerings beautifully. The kitchen is open late, so you can enjoy these culinary delights well into the evening, with the bar remaining open until midnight.
In addition to its stunning decor and extensive menu, The Gold Room is known for its upscale and luxurious service. The staff is attentive and professional, contributing to an overall experience of opulent, elegant, and unforgettable grandeur. The bar is a perfect spot for both locals and tourists, offering a high-end experience that feels exclusive yet welcoming. The cozy and romantic atmosphere is ideal for a date night, while the space is also well-suited for groups. The availability of Wi-Fi is a thoughtful amenity for guests, and the various payment options, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, make the experience seamless. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been taking people here for years! The Gold Room is one of my favorite places to take friends when they visit the city.As a huge fan of New York's history, the entire experience is very special from entering the courtyard of the Villard Houses (built in 1884 and originally called Cathedral Court because it faces the back of St. Patrick’s Cathedral), which any Gossip Girl fan will recognize as the residence of the Van der Woodsen family, to ascending the stairs inside to the right and entering The Gold Room itself, which is located in the southern wing of the Villard Houses.Walking into The Gold Room is like stepping into a gilded jewel of New York’s architectural past. Its shimmering surfaces, classical artistry, and hidden musical balcony create an unforgettable, timeless atmosphere, perfectly blending history with modern elegance. It’s one of the most iconic settings in the city, both visually and experientially. They have a wide variety of drinks, many with names calling back to New York's past and pop culture such as The Commodore (referring to Cornelius Vanderbilt), The Carnegie, The Mrs. Astor (referring to Caroline "Lina" Astor, who led the Four Hundred, New York City's high society during the Gilded Age of the 1870's - 1900), and Gossip Girl.Whether you're enjoying a cocktail in the evening or just admiring the space during a quiet moment, The Gold Room is a rare gem. It’s like stepping into another era of opulent, elegant, and unforgettable grandeur. Every detail, from the gilded ceilings to the finely crafted cocktails, feels thoughtfully preserved and beautifully reimagined. Also to note: The courtyard often has great decorations year-round that are great for photos. If you visit during the holidays, there is a beautiful Christmas tree and other lights and decorations which make the courtyard one of the best areas to visit during the holidays if you love that time of year.
September 09 · Ross IskowitzThe Gold Room is located inside the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. It has a beautiful atmosphere and the restaurant is small yet cozy. There is also a bar available. The restaurant is open until midnight, but the kitchen closed around 11 pm.
July 08 · ChristinaI loved Mr B! He was so sweet! The drinks were great and the inside has such beautiful rooms. They also have free nuts which is a nice touch
July 12 · Neha LuthraCocktails at the exquisite Gold Room at the Lotte Hotel (formerly the Helmsley Palace). The bar was part of the original gilded age mansion designed by Stanford White in 1882.
May 08 · Francine LauraIf you are looking for a classy bar, this is it. The drinks were well made and the service was great. My only knock is that the food and drinks are a bit pricey. I will be back.
