For a customer in the New York area, particularly on Long Island, The Pizza Block offers a unique proposition that makes it a worthwhile choice. The primary draw is the extensive and diverse menu, ensuring that there’s truly something for everyone. If you’re a purist, a good Plain Cheese Pie or a New York-style slice, described by one customer as featuring a generous amount of cheese with a crust that is "crisp on the outside and soft on the inside," is a must-try. The classic flavors, rich sauce, and attention to crust texture meet the high standards expected of a quality New York pizzeria.
For those looking to explore beyond the traditional, the specialty options are where The Pizza Block shines. The Vodka Slice and the unique Chicago Deep Dish Slice are particularly popular and offer a twist on the standard slice shop fare. Families will appreciate the Half & Half Pizza Pie option, which simplifies ordering by allowing two different toppings on one large pie, easily satisfying different preferences at the dinner table. Furthermore, the availability of a Gluten-Free Personal Pie and options with vegan meat substitutes ensures that those with dietary restrictions or preferences can still enjoy a satisfying meal. The convenience of having a full Salad Bar, delicious Falafel Platter options, and a complete Sushi Counter in one spot transforms this from a simple pizza place into a complete fast-casual dining solution.
However, as with any local spot, customers should be aware of the varied experiences reported by patrons. While some customers rave about the "true New York pizza" quality, which they compare favorably to famous Manhattan and Brooklyn spots, other critical feedback has highlighted serious concerns regarding food quality control, such as pizza being burnt, and, most importantly, significant issues with kitchen hygiene and customer service response to these matters. It is recommended for new customers to perhaps start with smaller, simple orders during a busy time and assess the quality and service for themselves, keeping in mind the highly polarized nature of the public reviews. For all its variety and convenience, a positive experience will depend on the consistency of the preparation and service at the time of your visit. Despite potential inconsistencies, the sheer variety and kosher-certified status make it an invaluable local resource for many in the West Hempstead, NY, community.

The Pizza Block Reviews
Very good pizza. They use a generous amount of cheese. The crust is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Thick enough to support the toppings. Flavorful sauce and fast service. Staff are friendly and efficient. Would absolutely eat here again.
May 06 · Simcha GoldishAbsolutely Disgusted Serious Health ConcernsI don't usually leave reviews, but this experience was so appalling that I feel obligated to warn others. I went to this location to pick up two pies for a family party. My kids were so excited for pizza night it was supposed to be a fun, easy dinner. Instead, we got something straight out of a nightmare.First, when we opened the boxes at home, we were shocked to find that both pizzas were completely burnt on the bottom and not just overcooked, but blackened like they'd been sitting in a fire pit. The crust crumbled like ash when we touched it. Totally inedible. It was obvious no one had even checked the quality before boxing them up. That was bad enough, but unfortunately, it got worse. While I was waiting for the order, I witnessed something beyond disgusting: one of the kitchen employees, wearing gloves, turned away from the prep area, stuck his hands into the back of his pants, adjusted himself, and then immediately turned back around and started kneading dough with the same gloves still on. He did not wash his hands, did not change gloves, did not say a word. I was in absolute disbelief. There were at least two other staff members in the kitchen, and not a single person said anything or intervened. It’s clear that this location either has zero sanitation training or simply does not care. This is a massive health code violation, and frankly, it’s terrifying to think of how often this might be happening when no one’s watching.I tried to bring this up to the person at the counter, but I was met with a shrug and a “we’ll let someone know.” No apology. No concern. Nothing. This is a clear case of negligence—both in food preparation and employee hygiene—and it absolutely deserves to be investigated by corporate, and frankly, the health department.I want a sincere apology from management ASAP. At the very least, they should be terminated immediately for endangering customers. I will not be returning I don’t want to deal with these unprofessional buffoons. Absolutely unacceptable behavior and a huge disappointment for my family, especially my kids who were looking forward to a simple, enjoyable meal.IF I HAD AN OPTION IT WOULDVE BEEN 0 STARS.
September 10 · ashyree yoAmazing pizza at Pizza Block! Food was ready quickly. The pizza and slice variety are great. The toppings are fresh, and the sauce has just the right zing. Cozy vibe and friendly staff make it a must-visit. 5 stars!
July 07 · Medicare Michael FriedmanI really don't want to give a mixed review resulting in an overall bad experience. So this absolutely requires an explanation. The staff and service are top notch and what you should expect in a family friendly establishment. The staff's best efforts are let down by the food. My first sampling was a slice topped with ground beef. Among the worst I've ever encountered. The flavors weren't just bland they had a spoiled essence. I returned to let them know I couldn't put up a bad review for a new business. The explanation was this is a kosher, the meat is fake. I've lived in West Hempstead for 25 years, there's a kosher pizza establishment 6 or 7 blocks down the road which is fantastic. The staff again fantastic insisting I try something different. I selected a veggie pizza with similar results. An unwillingness to flavor the sauces is ultimately what's letting down the experience. The crust and cheese are perfectly fine. Again it's the unwillingness to refine the assembly. I'll definitely return in a month or two. I'll stop by the week to show them the review because I've never done this before and want them successfully. If things change I will absolutely remove or update this review ASAP. Sorry guys I really truly am.
