What is worth choosing
With a menu as extensive as Tompkins Square Bagels', the possibilities can feel endless. For a quintessential New York experience, you can't go wrong with a bagel and cream cheese. The variety of house-made cream cheeses is the star of the show. If you're looking for a classic, the plain, scallion, or vegetable cream cheese on an everything bagel is a perfect choice. For something more adventurous, consider trying a flavored cream cheese like blueberry or birthday cake.
If you're in the mood for something more substantial, the breakfast sandwiches are a must-try. The "2 Eggs, Crispy Bacon and Cheese Sandwich" is a fan favorite, a hearty and satisfying start to any day. For those with more complex tastes, the specialty sandwiches like "The Weezer," with eggs, chorizo, bacon, and cheddar, or "The Leo," with eggs and fresh nova lox, are incredible choices that offer a full meal.
The smoked fish options are also highly recommended. A bagel with Nova Scotia Lox and cream cheese is a classic for a reason, and a customer review praises the "generously filled" salmon bagel, noting it was "packed with flavors."
While a few customer reviews have mentioned issues with order accuracy or service during peak times, the overwhelming consensus is that the quality of the bagels and the food is fantastic. The place is known for its incredible flavor and generous portions. The best strategy is to be patient if the line is long and to double-check your order, especially if you have specific requests. The payoff is a truly delicious, authentic New York bagel experience that is worth any wait.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I usually love this location but during my last visit the vibes were not giving. You could see “I’m trying to clock out” on every staffs forehead and my bagel was so tough I couldn’t bite through it. The bagels are always aesthetically pleasing, of course, but for spending almost $40 on 4 bagels I would expect better quality and a cashier that doesn’t look at me crazy for wanting to split a bill I never asked to be put together in the first place. Will most likely be visiting the other location from now on.
August 20 · Jai YoungFantastic spot for bagels. My salmon bagel was packed with flavours - generously filled with lots of salmon and cream cheese with tasty ingredients.Visiting in the morning was perfect as it wasn’t busy, and we got to sit by the window, watching the world go by while savouring our bagels. The service was good - the staff was really helpful, talking us through the filling options and suggesting the best combinations. Definitely recommend.
May 11 · Maxim SmirnoffNot particularly impressed. Maybe other locations are better, but the service and quality of the bagels were disappointing for such a popular spot for NYC bagels. The service wasn't managed very well considering how accustomed they should've been with long queues -- there's a clear corner at the counter for picking up orders, however they call your name from the middle of the counter by the cash register. I didn't hear my name from across the shop called given how busy it was -- my order sat there for over 10 minutes and they didn't call my name again, so it was already a bit cold by the time I had to walk up to the cashier and cut in front of people actually ordering to get my bagel. As for the bagels themselves, despite the rainbow being obviously made for instagram, I would still expect it to reach a basic standard of a well-made, plain NYC bagel. It was instead very dense, the dough was not sufficiently risen, and so the texture was basically rubbery. The cookie dough cream cheese was fairly good, sweet without being sickly, and would have paired well with a good plain bagel. They also suffer from having an overcomplicated menu, and don't present all the options clearly given how overwhelming it can be with all the crowds.Would recommend Apollo Bagels instead for a simpler menu and reliably delicious NYC bagels.
April 29 · KatIf you don’t like meeting people at the club, you’re in luck, cause every hungover 25 year old in east village is here at 11am on Sunday. Just come here to see the same crowd!Update: their gluten free selection is POPPIN and this location is just as good as the other one. They have sesame, plain, everything, and cinnamon raisin gluten free bagels. The cinnamon raisin gf bagel is great. I got it toasted with butter and it tasted like a Tim Hortons bagel (high praise) and cost $3.70.—Very very delicious and fresh bagels. The blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese was SO good! Not as many options as the other Tompkin Square Bagel locations. They still have tofu cream cheeses (around 6 options), but not as many as other locations. They give a LOT of cream cheese on the bagels which is great. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was also awesome (maybe better than at the original location...).
July 27 · Cassia AMy first bagel in US. I was a bit overwhelmed over the large variety of options, but the staff was so kind to explain me everything. Really delicious and now I’m hooked and understand the hype. I have tried several other places since, but this is still the best.
