Totopan is worth choosing for New Yorkers, particularly those in the Brooklyn area, for two main reasons: the authentic cultural experience and the unique, all-in-one convenience. This is not just another neighborhood cafe; it is an institution that shares the culinary traditions of Guatemala, offering specialty items that stand out from the typical NYC bakery fare.
If you are seeking genuine Central American baked goods—from the daily artisanal bread to the specialty hot drinks and pastries—Totopan offers unparalleled authenticity in the Sunset Park area. Patrons often choose this spot specifically for signature savory items, like the acclaimed Doblada de pollo, which is guaranteed to be fresh and satisfying. The quality of the food, combined with the comfortable and "aesthetically pleasing" atmosphere, provides a superior experience over standard chain bakeries.
Furthermore, choosing Totopan means supporting a Latino-owned small business that actively contributes to the local economy and cultural landscape of Brooklyn. The provided service options, including delivery, curbside pickup, and in-store services, show a clear commitment to customer convenience. While one customer review noted a billing error—an isolated incident that the staff immediately rectified by providing a cash refund and re-processing the correct payment—the overall positive feedback on the food quality and friendly, attentive staff ("Staff has been attentive and friendly") suggests a strong commitment to service. For a New Yorker who values authenticity, quality, and community, Totopan offers a truly unique and delicious experience that is highly worth the visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I went there on September 14 and I took 1 hour ride to get there just to have a really bad experience, to start the girl wasn’t being nice and the I bought 12 tostados 1.25 each and other type of bread, 4 for 2 each which was supposed to be 23 maybe 25 with taxes. To my surprise it came to be 43.50 they were charging me 20 extra from no where, so my mom realized that so she started telling them, you overcharged us so I told her to void the payment I change me again for the correct amount, what she did was gave me the money back in cash when we payed with card so it was supposed to be reinvest to my husband’s card, but any ways they gave us to us in cash and I pay again with my card. I don’t usually do this type of comments but I thought I shouldn’t leave it like that. So now I just think to how many people they have done the same, cause they can just take the money from the cashier. People!!!!! Be aware!!!!!They may be stealing money from you without you knowing!!!!!!!I adjusted the recipe so you guys can see the big difference for 4 breads and no only that we pay card and they gave us the money back in cash, so that means they have access to take the money just like that.
September 24 · rosmeri rizzoNew spot on 5avThe place is very cozy and aesthetically pleasing. Staff has been attentive and friendly. The cakes and breads look amazing! And so delicious!I ordered a Doblada de pollo. 2 come in the order and was told “made fresh each order” and it tasted amazing! It was so fluffy and filling and also plated beautifully.I look forward to coming back and trying more of their food.
January 29 · karenI love the food and it’s authentic Guatemalan food, but I hate they play music in English. If you’re saying that is authentic Guatemalan restaurant you should be playing Marimba.
June 28 · Meches Rosales-MaupinAbsolutely loved it! Great selection and very friendly staff!
February 09 · mani aggFlan is very heavy and creamy. Coconut cake the cream is sour and heavy. Not sure who likes this kind of taste but it is not delicious.
