Vaishnav thali Introduce
For New Jersey residents seeking an authentic, traditional Indian vegetarian dining experience, **Vaishnav Thali** in Lake Hiawatha offers a focused menu that brings the regional flavors of India right to your table. The restaurant is dedicated to the concept of the 'Thali,' a large platter serving a selection of various dishes, embodying a complete, balanced meal. This is a place where the rich culinary traditions of Gujarat, Kathiyawad, and Punjab converge, offering a taste of home-style Indian cooking that is particularly favored by those looking for pure vegetarian, healthy, and wholesome options.
Vaishnav Thali distinguishes itself by specializing in set-meal formats, particularly the popular fixed-price thalis, rather than a la carte curries. These special thalis—the Gujarati, Kathiyawadi, and Punjabi—provide a fantastic way to sample a variety of regional tastes in one sitting for a price of $17.99, while the extensive Vaishnav Special Thali is available for $24.99. The focus is on authentic vegetarian food, and the menu proudly features popular Indian street snacks, known as 'Bites' or 'Per Piece' items, like Vada Pav and Dabeli, which many local users find solid and enjoyable.
While the atmosphere is described as casual and quiet, perhaps "just meh" in some reviews, patrons often agree that the experience is centered on the food itself. The establishment is particularly renowned for its traditional Indian snacks (Farsan), desserts, and fresh breads. Items like Patra, Sev Khamni, and fresh breads such as Roti and Thepla are frequently highlighted for their freshness and quality. The restaurant’s dedication to providing a family-friendly environment and being good for kids further cements its status as a comfortable, reliable spot for a wholesome meal in the community.
Customers should note that the regional styles, particularly the Gujarati cuisine, can feature dishes that lean toward the sweeter side, which has been a polarizing point in customer feedback. While some find the food "terrible and very sweet," others appreciate the authenticity of the regional flavor profiles. The positive consensus often points toward the quality of the freshly made items like the rotis and thepla, as well as the classic street foods and appetizers, rather than the variety of subzis (curries) in the thali itself.

The restaurant's true gems lie in its supporting cast of food items.
If you decide to visit, the strongest recommendations are for the **Indian street snacks and Farsan**. Specifically, the **Dabeli** and **Vada Pav** are described as solid and satisfying choices. Additionally, the option to buy fresh items like **Patra**, **Khaman**, and the specialty sweets by the pound makes it an excellent local source for traditional Indian celebratory foods and snacks to take home. The freshness of the flatbreads, particularly the Rotis and Thepla, is a clear highlight and a worthwhile addition to any meal.
When ordering a Thali, understand that the regional style, especially the Gujarati Dal and curries, will often carry a distinct sweetness, which is traditional but may not appeal to everyone's preference for savory Indian cuisine. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall I give this 4 stars.. the atmosphere isn't winning any awards. It's kinda sticky and just meh. But, if you're there for the food, you'll find some gems.We really enjoyed the dabeli and vada pav – those were solid! The thali itself was a mixed bag. The 4 subzis were all pretty average. But the poori and farsan were surprisingly good.Basically, go for the snacks and farsan, skip the ambience expectations, and you'll probably leave happy enough.
February 26 · Namrata DFood was terrible and the wait time is ridiculous.Everything tasted very sweet and ambience is also very unwelcoming.Ordered gujarati thali - dal and curries were so sweet, i thought i was eating curry dessert. It had no salt and no taste to it.Owner should be put in jail for charging $17.99 for food like this. Icing on the cake is Spanish people are cooking Indian food.I don’t know what other people ordered to leave such positive reviews but it was certainly not my experience.Rotis and thepla were definitely fresh. This is the only good part about this restaurant.
January 02 · RojaThe name Vaishnav thali itself enough to describe the quality of food .. wow.. more than yummy tasty as expected.. the owner Sachin bhai and gitaben served very delicious gujarati veg food with beautiful smile.. loved the food !!
July 02 · manish dharaniMy recent visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that customer service was not a priority. There was no welcoming atmosphere, and the staff seemed completely disinterested. We had to wait, and when we ordered, they were out of half the items on the menu. The food that did arrive was incomplete, and the service was lacking in every way. The staff didn't provide all the necessary items, and they seemed more interested in their phones than in attending to our needs. Even when we greeted them, there was no response. Overall, the experience was very poor, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food was subpar, and the customer service was practically nonexistent.
August 07 · Shakil SaiyedMyself and a fellow vegan colleague came in and asked about vegan options. I specified no ghee, no yoghurt no paneer and we asked for options. My coworker repeated no animal products. I asked about the Punjabi Thali and she said yes it's vegetarian and i reiterate that we need vegan no animal products. My food comes and the Punjabi curry had paneer. They very quickly replaced it with the okra curry from the Gujarati Thali but it has already taken so long I just got my food to go. The door in was very dirty smudgy glass. Not cleaned in a long time. The few bites of food I tried was very tasty.
