★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Under the big skylight in the American Wing, where everything feels still and timeless, I took a break with a Pistachio Frangipane & Rhubarb Tart and a hot cup of green tea.The tart looked as good as it tasted. Pink rhubarb slices sat on a soft green pistachio layer. The filling was lightly nutty and buttery, with a nice chew that went well with the tart rhubarb. It wasn’t too sweet, which made it feel fancy and balanced. The green tea was warm, earthy, and calming. Perfect for a peaceful museum afternoon.A chocolate cupcake was rich, moist, and full of chocolate flavor, with creamy frosting on top. Nothing fancy, just a classic done well. The café is on the pricey side, but this little treat felt like a nice reward after wandering through art. Totally worth it if you can find a seat with a good view.
May 18 · Irina Niki BykovaThey had PB&J. Also located in a world famous NY museum. For that I gave it 4 stars. Convenient to have a place to buy drinks (good variety), a sandwhich (good selection to choose from), and a coffee. Brew was ok. Self serve which surprised me. [All you can drink?]Plenty of seating, but tables are closes together. No real complaints.I do wish they had a latte machine.
February 22 · MichaelI'd say this is the nicest cafe in the museum. You have a view of Central Park on one side and a lovely view of the sheltered statue courtyard (Charles Englehard Court) on the other. The prices are as expected for a museum cafe, but it's not expected to tip which brings it somewhat closer to the total price you'd pay elsewhere.
February 01 · K Pahl-DuffyRUDE staff who didn’t let us add milk or water to our tea. I noticed a lot of people complained about this on here, MET, do something! I saw reviews on hot chocolate, tea, coffee, the staff won’t let you adjust your drink unless you pay $2 for hot water on top of the drink that you already overpaid for.I also saw a staff stopping a group from leaving, shouting “CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES!!!,” so remember to clean up and DON’T TIP because there’s no service (well, some bad service with attitude at the cashier)! All the food tasted horrible, eat anywhere else in the MET but here. You’ve been warned.Photo of the rude staff explaining why we can’t make the tea how we like it. Photo of our receipt attached also.
July 28 · Rachel Chan (therachelchan)The only reason I did this was because I hadn't eaten or drank all day and I felt like I was going to faint. That was mistake number 1. Mistake number 2 was picking that last lonely muffuletta sandwich.$22.54... 15 bucks for the sandwich, the difference in a Sprite and the tip. They gave me a glass of free water. Thank God because that sandwich was a salt bomb. The olive salad packed inside was nice, helped overcome the day old dry bread... almost. The cafeteria style setting is uber American so it's fitting for the American wing. Good luck grabbing a table along the courtyard edges. It's more enjoyable if you have a view that doesn't consist of exhausted tourists. The staff was Midwestern American friendly with all the smiles. As a native NYer I find it weird anywhere but especially here. So tip them. They deserve it.With its limited selection this wouldn't be my first choice of eats at the Met. So don't do like me, eat before and/or after. Even the food carts outside are a better option.
