What is worth choosing?
Choosing Au Bon Pain on Grand Concourse is a smart decision for several reasons, particularly for a New Yorker seeking convenience and quality. The cafe’s primary strength lies in its ability to deliver "great coffee" and satisfying "quick bites" in a fast-paced environment. It is a reliable spot for a consistent and delicious breakfast, as evidenced by its popularity for the morning meal. The menu, while offering quick items, is known for its fresh options, including a range of sandwiches that are often praised for being tasty and well-made. The friendly and well-mannered staff, as noted in a customer review, also contribute significantly to a positive experience, making a simple visit feel more welcoming. The efficiency of the service, particularly for sandwiches, means you can get what you need without a long wait.
The accessible location on Grand Concourse is a major plus, making it easy to swing by for a coffee or a meal on your daily commute or while running errands. The wheelchair-accessible entrance ensures that the cafe is an inclusive space for all community members. This attention to detail in both service and accessibility makes it a convenient and thoughtful choice.
However, it is important for potential patrons to be aware of a negative review that raises concerns about inconsistent practices. One customer reported being given a smaller-sized bread for their sandwich but being charged the full price, with the explanation that the store had "ran out of standard size." This suggests a potential issue with consistency and customer support that should be considered. While another customer praised the clean establishment and friendly staff, this specific instance highlights a potential area for concern regarding value and order accuracy. It is recommended that customers pay attention to their orders to ensure they receive what they paid for. Despite this, the consistent praise for the coffee and the overall positive feedback on the friendly staff suggest that Au Bon Pain remains a solid option for those looking for a quick and reliable cafe experience in the Bronx, provided they are mindful of their order.

I've known Au Bon Pain since 1981. I used to have breakfast there in Harvard Yard. Every time I've been back in New York, I've gone there for coffee and some of their sweet treats. Its taste hasn't changed over the years. The last time I went to the Boston branch, which I don't think is there anymore. It's GREAT! Delicious and not at all expensive compared to other places. The coffee is super delicious, and they have several kinds. A place I love and highly recommend!
