The menu's variety is a major draw, offering everything from classic tennis rolls to savory dishes like chicken fried rice, which one reviewer described as "absolutely love it!" This mix of sweet and savory is a hallmark of Bakewell's unique approach. However, it’s worth noting that the bakery's popularity can lead to a bustling and at times chaotic environment, particularly on weekends. The high demand for their food is a testament to its quality, but it can also result in long wait times, especially for pickup orders. This is a common situation for many popular local spots in a busy city like New York, and it speaks to the high volume of customers who believe the food is well worth the wait. Despite any potential for a crowded counter, the core reason people keep coming back is the undeniable taste and quality of the food itself.
The experience at Bakewell is a classic New York story: a place with amazing food that is immensely popular and can get very busy. While some customers have noted frustrations with weekend crowds and service wait times, the consistent praise for the food remains a powerful testament to the bakery's value. The a la carte menu, with items like dhal puris and rotis, showcases a depth of flavor that many find irresistible. A detailed review highlighted that despite a frustrating pickup experience, the food was "delicious" and "worth trying." This sentiment is a common one, where the quality of the food ultimately outweighs any operational snags. For those planning a visit, understanding the nature of a busy, local establishment is key. The delicious offerings, like the beloved chicken fried rice and other savory and sweet items, provide a strong incentive for a visit, particularly for those who appreciate authentic Caribbean fare. Bakewell stands as a testament to the power of great food to build a lasting community connection, even in a city with countless dining options.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Love Bakewell! It’s my go-to spot for bread, tennis rolls, and especially their chicken fried rice, absolutely love it!My husband usually gets the cassava pone, but lately, it’s been pretty disappointing—almost inedible. Hoping they bring back the quality we’re used to!
August 04 · Sammie ArjuneSummary:The food is delicious, but the wait can be extreme. I ordered dhal puris and rotis via Uber Eats for Saturday pickup and ended up waiting over an hour, even though I was told “a few minutes.” Orders through the app don’t seem to be prioritized, and the lack of a clear line makes things confusing and frustrating for everyone. Staff seemed stressed, and service wasn’t warm. The food is worth trying, but I’d avoid weekends—or at least call ahead for a time estimate. Personally, I won’t be back because of how chaotic the pickup experience was.Full Review:The food here is delicious, but whether it’s worth the wait depends on the circumstances.I ordered multiple dhal puris and rotis via Uber Eats for pickup on a Saturday. Since Saturdays are busy and these items take time to prepare, I expected some delay. However, waiting over an hour was excessive—especially because staff only told me “a few minutes” instead of being upfront. Had I not already paid through the app, I likely would have walked out.It also seemed like they didn’t realize my order had come in until I arrived. I placed it about 30 minutes earlier and only left my house after the app estimated it would be ready. From what I observed, phone orders and walk-ins are currently prioritized over app orders. The service itself is what you might expect from a Caribbean establishment: not particularly warm, and you often need to make yourself known. If you don’t speak up, customers who arrive after you may get served first. The woman who assisted me had a bit of an attitude - maybe due to the stress. To me, that was problematic because I have the right to be a little annoyed but I wasn’t even showing it—I was just waiting. The ordering setup also adds to the confusion. There isn’t a clear line, so customers crowd around the counter, competing for attention. Some will stay at the cashier while waiting for their food, so those who are behind them have to work harder. Some people got upset and left, while others’ orders seemed to be paused midway as staff shifted focus to someone else. One customer even had a complete meltdown due to the disorganization. In my opinion, they should consider pausing Uber Eats orders for now (or at least on the weekends) and bringing on more staff during weekends to handle the volume. That said, the food really is very good. I’d recommend trying it—but if you what dhal puri and roti on a weekend call and get an estimate for time. Personally, I'm not going back just for my experience while waiting.
September 27 · Anika LBad service. Very disorganize. Very.Stood in line 12 minutes. One of the girl started my order on some pastries. Left and never came back . 15 minutes I’m standing by the pastry section to finish. Finally I rejoined the line again and she came back to help me again. I said no please give me someone else . Terrible customer service. Not very helpful. Because they’re sio disorganized, with confusion they short your product too . Intentionally. Please go to Sybil’s and see the crowd , but you pull a number and called by your number and one person tend to you. Again please organize your store and employees.
September 27 · Feroze KhanToday was the very first time I bought a chicken fried rice from here and it is worth itThe food is delicious and employees was really respectful and friendly🥰💯 I am definitely going back here again to buy foodThe atmosphere is amazing and very cleanEveryone was wearing a hairnet as well their prices are fair as well.....Thank you so much to the auntie that helped me this afternoon
August 14 · Vishana TrishaBe careful what you buy especially the pastry. This is what I got from the other location called roti on the run in Brooklyn. The owner has a nasty attitude. When I showed and told his about the mold in the cheese pie . He said that nothing. And you should hear how he talks to his workers. I’m sorry for the worker there he should learn from their positive attitude
