When deciding where to spend a night in New York, Bar Orai offers several compelling reasons to make it your choice. The biggest draw is its one-of-a-kind atmosphere. It’s a bar that prioritizes the auditory experience just as much as the culinary and mixological ones. The fusion of a high-end listening room with a cozy, speakeasy feel is something you won't find just anywhere. The vinyl collection and curated DJ sets ensure that the soundtrack to your evening is always top-notch and never overpowering, allowing for both appreciation of the music and conversation.
Beyond the ambiance, the menu itself is worth the trip. If you're a fan of Japanese whiskey, the selection is robust and provides an excellent opportunity to sample some of the best the country has to offer. The cocktail menu, while concise, features drinks that are both creative and well-executed. However, what truly sets Bar Orai apart is its food. While many bars offer standard pub fare, Bar Orai elevates bar food to an art form. The Katsu Sando is a standout that has garnered praise from regulars, and the Mentaiko Mac & Cheese, while spicy, is a creamy, flavorful dish that perfectly complements a whiskey or cocktail. Don't overlook the Fresh Tuna & Tamago Kimbap, a surprising but delicious addition to the menu. The snack-sized dishes are perfect for sharing and encourage a communal dining experience.
The combination of great music, excellent drinks, and elevated bar food makes Bar Orai a complete package. It’s a place where you can easily lose track of time, absorbed in the good company, the smooth tunes, and the incredible flavors. It is a perfect spot for a date, a small group of friends, or a solo outing when you want to treat yourself to an evening of quality and calm. The fact that it accepts reservations is a huge plus in a city where getting into popular spots can be a challenge. Ultimately, Bar Orai is worth choosing for its ability to create a truly memorable and multi-sensory experience that feels both luxurious and genuinely welcoming.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have visited this place countless times, which speaks volumes about how much I appreciate it. If you enjoy good music and quality drinks, this venue truly feels like a little piece of heaven. What sets it apart, however, is the consistently excellent food — every dish is thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor.I personally recommend the kimbap, yuzu tomatoes, and mac and cheese; they have become staples for me. Each pairs beautifully with a well-crafted whiskey or cocktail, elevating the entire dining experience. If you’re considering a visit, I highly encourage it — you’re in for a memorable time ❤️🫶🏻
June 24 · USUNwe tried almost everything on the menu and there were some standouts and some misses— the sandos were our favorites. I love the ebi katsu… the shrimp was perfectly crispy and flavorful and perfect for serving on a milkbread sandwich. The mac and cheese was very spicy, but tasty. The karage was a miss for me… it was missing some flavor & salt. The whisky drinks were solid… I loved the earl grey high ball. The vibes of the bar is definitely a speakeasy vibe / someone’s very well curated living room. I loved that they were playing vinyl jazz in the dining room… the dessert was missable, but i loved the concept of fries with ice cream.
December 29 · Christine YangFun and cozy spot for drinks and good music. It's like your cool aunt's home and she invited her DJ friend to come play some chill vinyl tracks on her custom-made sound systems. Really enjoyed the music selection by the DJ when we went, and the Japanese whiskey flight was great. Definitely make a reservation in advance. Would recommend ideally for groups of 2-4.

September 12 · GraceTo me, Bar Orai is exactly what I want a speakeasy to be, 10/10.Absolutely fantastic atmosphere with great music (and live music on occasion!!), great service, and great food. The drinks were delicious and most of the food was also great. I recommend getting the mac & cheese, it was smoky and creamy and everything I wanted. All in all, the perfect spot to get a couple drinks with friends and eat some small plates. See you there 🫡
