Cafe Mogador Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Yorkers seeking a culinary journey that is both exotic and deeply comforting, Cafe Mogador stands as an essential destination. This restaurant is an NYC institution, having woven itself into the fabric of the city since its founding in the East Village in 1983 by Rivka Orlin, a visionary pioneer of Moroccan-inspired cuisine. Cafe Mogador masterfully blends authentic Moroccan and broader Mediterranean flavors, offering an all-day menu that delights with its complexity and freshness. The dishes are rooted in the founder's heritage, who was born in Mogador (now Essaouira), Morocco. This authenticity shines through in their signature offerings, particularly the expertly braised Tagines, which are slow-cooked to perfection, and their generous, flavorful Couscous plates. Beyond the traditional main courses, the restaurant is equally famous for its diverse Mezze selection and its award-winning Brunch menu, which cleverly fuses Moroccan tastes with American classics, such as the renowned Moroccan Eggs.
More than just the food, the atmosphere at Cafe Mogador Williamsburg is a major part of the appeal. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Overall I love the vibe here. They even have a patio space. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for some food.Pita Sandwich, highly recommended. Amazing flavor generous portion and it comes with a fresh salad. Honestly I think it tastes even better than the hummus.Salmon Benedict, would not recommend. The flavors felt a bit off and I actually found small bones in the fish which made it hard to enjoy especially with the potatoes. It could definitely be executed in a more flavorful and refined way.
August 11 · Penny FunGreat spot to grab breakfast and lunch. Plenty of space to fit a large group. The chicken pita was delicious however the chips wasn’t crispy.
August 20 · Elisa DCafé Mogador is one of those places that just gets it right. We were sitting in their gorgeous indoor garden terrace, and honestly—it felt like I got on a plane and landed in Morocco. The vibe, the colors, the smells, the music… everything was giving full Moroccan escape, without ever leaving the city. The food? Absolutely exceptional. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor—warm spices, perfect textures, just so satisfying. You can taste the love and tradition in every bite. The service was also great—attentive, kind, and made us feel so welcome from the moment we sat down.Highly recommend if you want to feel transported, eat delicious Moroccan food, and just have a beautiful, cozy experience. Already planning my next visit!
May 21 · Mary KedoWalking distance from a hotel we are staying. We had Moroccan egg plate , falafel, Greek salad, Turkish coffee and Moroccan tea. Everything was outstanding. Our server Pedro was very attentive and friendly. He gave a great suggestion as well as other places in town.
June 23 · Pink AvocadoStopped by chance late in the afternoon on a holiday. The interior is a unique mix of antique and modern touches, which made it fun to look around, and the back terrace area with all the plants had a really natural vibe. I was excited to see the brunch and lunch menu since there were so many dishes that looked like my style, but since we arrived close to 4pm, only the dinner menu was available. We each ordered a wine and a beer, and shared the Mixed Grill. Even though I don’t usually like sausage, everything—including the sausage—was really tasty. I didn’t get to try much this time, but I’m definitely coming back for brunch or lunch next time!
