Catracho Introduce
For residents and visitors in the New York region, especially those on Long Island, discovering a truly authentic international dining spot is always a treat. Catracho, located in Freeport, NY, stands out as a dedicated Honduran restaurant, bringing the rich, vibrant flavors of Central America right to our neighborhood. It has carved out a niche as a go-to location for delicious, comforting, and traditional cuisine from Honduras, making it a valuable addition to the diverse culinary landscape of the Empire State.
The name "Catracho" itself is a term used for a person from Honduras, immediately setting the tone for a genuine, culturally focused dining experience. This establishment is committed to serving up traditional Honduran fare, which is distinct from many other forms of Latin American cuisine. From classic staples to hearty meals, the menu is designed to appeal to both those familiar with Honduran food and newcomers eager to explore something new.
One of the most notable features of Catracho is its dedication to traditional preparation and ingredients. Honduran cooking often features a delightful mix of meats, beans, rice, and, crucially, plantains and cassava (yuca). It focuses on satisfying, flavorful dishes that reflect the country's coastal and inland culinary traditions. The restaurant is popular for providing a true taste of home for the local Honduran community while also welcoming all New Yorkers to share in the culture and hospitality.
According to customer feedback, many patrons are thoroughly impressed with the overall experience, noting the excellent value and quality. As one first-time visitor pleasantly reported, "Is my first time visiting this place, and I'm so pleased to let u know the place the service and also the prices are unbelievable amazing good. And is pretty organized and clean. I'm glad that I decided to visiting ☺️😊." This sentiment highlights a commitment to service, organization, and cleanliness that enhances the dining atmosphere.
The culinary offerings cater well to various dining occasions, making it a great choice for a casual mid-day meal or a full evening dinner. Their extensive menu, based on publicly available information, features many Honduran specialties. For instance, you can expect to find Baleadas, a classic Honduran street food made of a folded flour tortilla filled with mashed fried beans, cream, and cheese, with options to add various proteins. Other potential signature dishes could include Pollo con Tajadas (fried chicken served with sliced fried green plantains and a cabbage salad with sauce) or various seafood preparations, which are often prominent in Honduran cuisine, drawing from its Caribbean and Pacific coastlines.
Catracho is conveniently situated in the town of Freeport, making it readily accessible for residents throughout Long Island's Nassau County and even those traveling from the outer boroughs of New York City. The physical address is 50 S Main St, Freeport, NY 11520, USA. For New Yorkers looking to experience the authentic culinary traditions of Central America, Catracho offers a compelling choice. It’s an ideal spot for those seeking high-quality Honduran food in a welcoming, organized setting. The combination of authentic cuisine—including staples like Baleadas, and various meat and seafood plates—with a family-friendly atmosphere makes it a standout destination. The availability of delivery and takeout further increases its utility for busy individuals and families on Long Island.
While most reviews are highly positive, offering praise for the value and atmosphere, it is worth noting that some specific, often complex, dishes like elaborate seafood soups have occasionally led to isolated dissatisfaction regarding ingredient preparation, as one review noted: "I ordered seafood soup with soft shell crab paying extra and I got a regular crab instead. I even tried to eat and chew the body of it but it wasn’t soft at all... I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone because of the stinginess." However, such detailed, negative feedback is often balanced by the overwhelmingly positive comments concerning the standard service, general cleanliness, and overall excellent pricing and value, suggesting a commitment to quality in its core offerings and service environment. Patrons are encouraged to inquire specifically about the preparation of unique ingredients, but the restaurant's reputation for classic Honduran dishes remains strong.
Ultimately, Catracho provides a unique and valuable dining experience that adds to the cultural richness of the New York metropolitan area. It serves as an essential local hub for authentic Honduran cooking, inviting everyone to taste the warmth and flavor of its Central American roots.

August 31 · Alicia HernandezI ordered seafood soup with soft shell crab paying extra and I got a regular crab instead. I even tried to eat and chew the body of it but it wasn’t soft at all. I hardly got any seafood either and the clam wasn’t open I couldn’t eat that either. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone because of the stinginess.
May 27 · Jennifer CruzThe staff is very friendly. The price for a breakfast sandwich is affordable. Pastry is good, the place is clean and the staff were able to do freshly made sandwiches is a decent amount of time. Got a small much also which was good. I recommend this establishment.
August 16 · Anes ShalkieMy favorite restaurant. Pupusas are delicious.
April 16 · Madeleine EichhornI tried to have dinner with my husband and friend here last night 7/23. I approached the establishment and was immediately put off two Latino men stepped told us we couldn't come in. I asked why I was told it's a different kind of eating here. I asked what that meant he gave a sly smirk and said this is for spanish people you people try someplace else. I'm disgusted it's sad you treat someone that way because of the color of my skin. RACIST! TRASH!
