Chapo's Latin Cuisine is an essential choice for anyone in the New Jersey area seeking true, high-quality Puerto Rican restaurant cooking. What makes this establishment particularly worth choosing is the combination of its cultural authenticity, the breadth of its traditional menu, and its exemplary service.
The strong cultural heart of the restaurant—recognized by a patron who praised it as an authentic, woman-owned operation representing her heritage—infuses every dish with genuine flavor and care. This attention to authenticity is evident in the quality of the main staples. The roasted meats are described as tender, the rice as perfect & fluffy, and the sweet plantains (Maduros) as fried to perfection. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1For beginners my apologies because i am not in the habit of giving bad reviews..Ever! However, i have to say that I was extremely disappointed since this was my first time ordering from here. Being Dominican and knowing first hand how good Puerto Ricans can cook (specially on the island) i was not impressed in the least with the sorullitos, the alcapurria, and especially Not with my tostones con chicharrón de pollo 🍗. First of all, los sorullitos were super skinny and small; the alcapurria was not the usual oval shaped ones stuffed with meat. This one was long and thin and left me asking 'wheres the beef'..SMH..and then the chicharrones could have used more flavoring and the tostones were dark, too crispy and over-cooked..thats a definite No-NO to a Dominican!! 🤦♀️ i dont mind paying for my meals but i expect good tasting Spanish food with real Flavor as we know it. Since it was delivered i cannot rate the atmosphere itself nor the rest of the food they offer. But Sadly i dont think I'll be eating here again. Sorry. But try it for yourself maybe your experience will be different 🤷♀️
September 12 · Sergia RosarioTo find an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant owned & operated by a woman fills my heart as well as my belly ;)The cutest small place, clean, bright, and decorated to represent its culture, my culture (father’s side). As you walk in the smells hit you, then you see the glass refrigerator stocked with octopus salad, seafood salad, potato salad and dessert followed by the hot stand loaded with the daily specials. The prices are SO reasonable! The owner herself is serving and she is delightful, attentive and accommodating, very nice. Now for the food which was everything I wanted & more. Rice was perfect & fluffy, meat was tender, sweet plantains fried to perfection, and creamy potato salad OMG. The dessert was wonderful with the right amount of sweet. This was the first but definitely not the last visit to this little gem ;)
April 27 · LorenaSophia RodriguezOk, so we pulled up 20min after opening and food looked old and dry and seem like it was almost end of day. Tried to order something out of the menu, was told they don't serve that...asked about another menu item was told the same. The lady told me, " what you see here is what we have." Rude rolling her eyes. Not to mention it smell like the place was mopped with dirty watter. It sucks cause being puertorican myself I was hoping this place was good, since I'm 4x out of the week across the street. So my wife, mother inlaw and myself just walked out and didn't bother to even ask about other items from menu. I personally would never return nor would recommend anyone. Wish we can give negative stars that's why I gave it a 1* I would've gave it -5. No I know why that place I always see parking lot empty.
July 26 · Luis VegaFamily Friendly great food white rice, yellow rice with pigeon peas, baked chicken, pork shoulder 😋 chicken chicharron, pork chicharron, empanadas beef, chicken, cheese, shrimp. They have potato salad 😋 chicken gizzard with green banana, sweet plantain. They also have desserts like cheesecake, tres leches, carrot cake, in a variety of sodas. They also have Malta.Great Puerto Rican food.
August 26 · Judith CarreroMy first time going to this place. I fall in love with it. I spend $$ just because I keep ordering food to go but it’s worth the price. The food is delicious.
