Clarksville Inn Introduce
When New Yorkers in the Hudson Valley talk about a restaurant that blends American culinary comfort with a palpable sense of history, the conversation inevitably leads to The Clarksville Inn in West Nyack. Operating today as The 1840 Tavern at Clarksville Inn, this establishment is far more than just a place to grab a meal; it is a cherished Rockland County landmark whose origins trace back to 1840. Originally built by Thomas Warner as the Clarkstown Hotel, it has served as a pivotal gathering place for travelers, stagecoach passengers, and locals for nearly two centuries, even hosting farewell balls for Civil War recruits. This rich past infuses the atmosphere with a unique, welcoming character that modern chain restaurants simply cannot replicate.
Today, The Clarksville Inn, under the banner of the 1840 Tavern, successfully marries its historical tavern atmosphere—featuring restored wood-and-brick interiors—with a contemporary, satisfying menu. The core offering is firmly rooted in American cuisine, encompassing the best of pub-style favorites, hearty sandwiches, and classic entrees. However, it’s particularly famous for one item: its wings, frequently cited by local patrons as the absolute "best place to go for wings" in the region.
This American restaurant has perfected the formula of high-quality comfort food at a great value, backed by a staff whose dedication to personable, friendly service is repeatedly praised by loyal customers. The environment is thoughtfully divided, featuring a great dining area that is perfectly "family friendly" and a separate bar side for a more traditional tavern experience. For locals seeking an authentic, unpretentious, and consistently excellent dining experience, The Clarksville Inn remains a top-tier destination.
The Clarksville Inn is situated at a historic intersection in West Nyack, NY, making it a familiar and easily accessible spot for residents throughout Rockland County and the greater New York region.

December 16 · Joel MazariegoMy friends and I frequently visit The Clarksville Inn for their wing night on Monday nights. We like that their waitresses are very personable and friendly, as opposed to your typical chain restaurant waiter/waitress that doesn't seem to care. Clarksville has a peaceful, upbeat atmosphere, and we have yet to have a bad experience in the many times we have been there. I don't write reviews very often, but I felt that the staff at Clarksville Inn deserved a five star positive rating, and I am happy to support such a wonderful group of people!
October 27 · Scott SobolFood is pretty good, and fun atmosphere downstairs. In a very historic building, so it is a little dark and smallish. Has a decent outdoor seating area and even toys for kids to play with.
July 08 · Brian RobbinsGreat food! The chicken Bacon Sensation and Penne Guarino are two of my favorite dishes! They have a nice patio and outdoor seating with a play area for the kids! Great for the whole family!
July 19 · Joanmarie MalmGood food and drink for a bar in a basement. Outdoor seating is nice. The food is traditional bar food with some nice sandwiches and wraps. Pretty good for what it is. Excellent place for lunch.
