Crif Dogs Introduce
For New Yorkers and visitors alike, Crif Dogs is an iconic institution that has been serving up some of the city's best hot dogs for decades. Located on the legendary St. Mark’s Place, this spot is more than just a hot dog joint; it's a quintessential East Village experience. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and trendy, making it a favorite for locals looking for a quick, delicious bite. Whether you're stopping by for a late-night snack after a night out or a casual weekend lunch, Crif Dogs delivers. The concept is simple but brilliantly executed: high-quality hot dogs with a vast array of creative and delicious toppings. This commitment to variety and flavor is what sets it apart and has earned it a loyal following. It's a place that captures the gritty, edgy, and welcoming spirit of the East Village.
The menu at Crif Dogs is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity behind their food. While they offer classic options, the real magic lies in their unique and inventive combinations. The Spicy Redneck, with bacon, chili, coleslaw, and pickled jalapeños, is a fan favorite. The Chihuahua, a bacon-wrapped dog with avocado and sour cream, is another popular choice that adds a cool, creamy contrast. For those with a sweet and savory craving, the Tsunami dog, with bacon, pineapple, and teriyaki, offers a truly unique flavor profile that surprisingly works. Even with a simple chili dog, as one reviewer noted, the "crisp snap of the dog" and "flavorful" chili are enough to make you a return customer. Beyond the hot dogs, the Tater Tots are a standout side, especially the Nacho Tots or the Truffle Shuffle. The menu also includes burgers and a veggie dog option, ensuring there's something for everyone, including vegetarians. This broad appeal and the consistently high quality of the food make Crif Dogs a go-to spot for comfort food in the city.
While the interior can be "pretty crowded & hot," especially during peak hours, the fast service ensures that you don't have to wait long to get your food. The restaurant’s popularity is a testament to its delicious offerings and welcoming vibe. In warmer weather, the street is sometimes closed to traffic, allowing them to set up outdoor seating, which creates a "chilled and comfortable" environment that is perfect for enjoying a meal. Crif Dogs is a beloved part of the East Village's fabric, and its reputation for being a great late-night spot is well-deserved. The experience of grabbing a delicious, customizable hot dog here, whether it’s in the early hours of the morning or on a sunny afternoon, is a true New York ritual that locals and visitors alike should partake in. Its quality and unique offerings make it a legendary place that is worth visiting again and again.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you love a great hotdog, then Crif Dogs should be one of your go-to spots. I’ve been coming to the St. Mark’s shop for as long as I can remember because they have so many different options/combinations that you can get. Pretty much anything goes in term of your toppings. On this occasion I got two dogs, one tsunami and the other a chili dog. Both were good. The diced pineapple and scallions add great flavor to the tsunami dog. The chili dog was good, even though it was light on the chili and could have used some heat. Nevertheless it was still very good. Most of my visits have been in the wee hours of the night; 1-2 in the morning. On this visit it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. On the weekends during the warmer weather they set up outside on the closed street and it’s a nice environment. So chilled and comfortable. Overall, if you’re in this part of the Village and you want a quick hotdog, then it’s definitely worth going to this legendary place. Give it a try because I’m sure you’ll love it.
June 05 · Michael PantonThe interior was pretty crowded & hot. We were just there to sample the dogs! We ordered the all beef chili dog with chopped onions. Took 15 minutes for it but I’d say it was worth it! Crisp snap of the dog & the chili was flavorful! Sold!! We’ll be back!
July 04 · Thomas Fallsa really cool and cozy atmosphere with some of the best hot dogs i’ve ever tried. the various options for hot dogs are smth that i would never think to try and they were all so delicious! i absolutely loved their tots too, so good n i can’t wait to come back!!
September 04 · svelteluvThis is the original Crif Dogs location, opened in 2001. It’s been my favorite place to get hot dogs and tater tots for 17 years. My favorite crif dog is the Chihuahua (bacon-wrapped with sour cream and avocado). Each dog, whether it’s pork and beef (crif), all beef (New Yorker) or the Bacon-Wrapped Crifs, all have a delightful snap with each bite. You can build your own dog and even start with a veggie, if you’re a non-meat eater. The list of toppings is extensive, including things like a fried egg, potato chips, sauerkraut, hummus, cole slaw, chili, and cheese. The tots are great. Salty and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The East Village Tots have cheese and pickled jalapeños on them, which adds a wonderful creaminess and spice. They have an amazing daily special:-Every day from 2-5 and 12am-close you will get 2 build your own dogs and a soft drink, beer, or cocktail for $10, $12, or $15 respectively. They are open late (2-3am) and the telephone booth leads to a speakeasy, just pick up the phone to get on the list. They also have two table top arcade games. You have to go down a few stairs to get in.
July 12 · Kristina KelleyI ordered the “Chihuahua” hot dogs inside and it was so good. Definitely hit the spot after a long night. The tater tots were so crisp and not greasy at all. I noticed tables were wiped down after every customer, and service was super quick! Great spot.
