Delice & Sarrasin Introduce
New York City is a global hub of culinary innovation, and its vibrant vegan scene is no exception. Among the city's diverse offerings, one restaurant stands out by blending classic French gastronomy with a 100% plant-based menu: Delice & Sarrasin. Nestled in the heart of Greenwich Village, this unique establishment challenges the notion that French food must be meat- and dairy-heavy. Instead, it offers a sophisticated and delicious journey through traditional French flavors, all while maintaining a commitment to ethical, plant-based ingredients. From comforting classics to delicate fine dining creations, Delice & Sarrasin provides a memorable experience for both dedicated vegans and curious foodies looking to explore something new.
The restaurant’s name itself hints at its philosophy. “Délice” means “delight,” while “Sarrasin” refers to buckwheat, a key ingredient in many of the savory crêpes, or “galettes,” that are a hallmark of French cuisine. The menu is a testament to the creativity and skill of its chefs, who meticulously recreate classic dishes like Bœuf Bourguignon, Foie Gras, and Cassoulet using clever, plant-based alternatives. This approach allows diners to enjoy the rich, complex flavors of France without compromise. Whether you’re a native New Yorker or just visiting, Delice & Sarrasin offers a cozy and romantic atmosphere that makes it perfect for a special night out, a leisurely lunch, or a celebratory dinner.
Delice & Sarrasin is conveniently located at 178 W Houston St, New York, NY 10014, USA. For those traveling by subway, the Christopher Street-Sheridan Square (1) station, West 4th Street-Washington Square (A, C, E, B, D, F, M) station, and Houston Street (1) station are all within a short walking distance. Bus lines also run along major nearby streets, providing even more options for getting to the restaurant.
When it comes to accessibility, Delice & Sarrasin is committed to being welcoming to all guests. Choosing what to order at Delice & Sarrasin can be a delightful dilemma, given the extensive menu filled with tempting options. For a true taste of the restaurant's unique philosophy, start with a classic French appetizer, like the Foie Gras Végétale or the Plateau de Fromage Végétal. These dishes showcase the chef's ability to recreate complex flavors and textures with a plant-based twist, providing a surprising and satisfying beginning to your meal. Many diners have praised the delicious and generous portions, especially of the cheese platter, which is a great option for sharing.
For a main course, you can't go wrong with the hearty classics. The Cassoulet Toulousain and the Bœuf Bourguignon are standouts, offering rich, comforting flavors that taste incredibly authentic. The Poulet Basquaise is another popular choice, noted for being both delicious and substantial. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Steak Tartare Végétale, a truly unique offering that demonstrates the kitchen’s skill. Don't forget to explore the Galettes Gourmandes, savory crêpes made with buckwheat flour, which are a signature of the restaurant and a perfect light meal or a shared plate. The Mr. Petrossian and Mr. Rabelais are excellent choices in this category.
Finally, save room for dessert. The Crêpes Gourmandes are a must-try, with the classic La Suzette being a favorite for many. The Orange Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse are also excellent options to end your meal on a sweet note. And to accompany your food, consider pairing it with a glass from their impressive wine list. The Pinot Noir 2022 or the Sancerre 2022 would complement many of the dishes beautifully. While some have noted that the prices can be on the higher side, the quality, creativity, and uniqueness of the food at Delice & Sarrasin make it a truly worthwhile dining experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My honest opinion of this vegan restaurant is that the decor was quite well thought out by the owner. The vegan food was actually pretty good—the "chicken" looked like real chicken. I ordered two crepes: one with "chicken" and one with fruits and chocolate. However, the service was not up to par. The dining room had both a door and a window open, which caused a lot of wind and drafts, making it unpleasant to eat in such conditions. The first time I asked to be moved, the host refused. I insisted a little and explained why I wanted to change tables, and they eventually moved me—but still placed me next to an open window. Also, the waitress lacked experience. There wasn’t much coordination among the staff—two different servers asked me what I wanted and where I was in the meal, even though I had already ordered. The waitress who served me seemed a bit confused. So overall, the service wasn't very smooth or pleasant.
June 10 · Aline d'AlineI’m French but I rarely eat French food to be honest. Mostly because I don’t eat meat anymore and most of the things are meat based. So I was very curious to try a vegan French restaurant. And you know what? It was a very good surprise. The restaurant is cosy and welcoming. I really liked the atmosphere! The food was also great and generous. My husband and I had the cheese platter and foie gras for starters which was delicious. Then cassoulet for him and poulet basquaise for me. Both were delicious and generous. For dessert we shared a crepe flambée which was a bit thin but good.We had a nice lunch here and are very pleased with the food quality and quantity. It was very tasty and service was quick and efficient. The only downside was that it was a bit expensive in my opinion.
March 29 · Melanie MengüşDelice & Sarrasin is truly a gem! The Escargots Beurre Maître d’Hôtel were absolutely incredible, the Tournedos Rossini was rich and perfectly prepared, and the Orange Crème Brûlée was one of the most unique and delicious vegan desserts I’ve ever had—it’s a must! On top of the amazing food, the service was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. This place proves vegan dining can be both elegant and unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exceptional plant-based experience in NYC!
August 16 · Stephanie FalquezSolid food. You can bring your non vegan friends here, and they won't miss the meat. The crepes were delicious. I will definitely come back to try other dishes. The ambiance is 5 stars
July 15 · Patty KNot recommended if you have always been vegetarian/vegan. We felt the food was too “meaty” yet bland, did not enjoy paying $36 each for these two items that we didn’t enjoy. Also the service wasn’t great. The interior is really pretty and the rest of the reviews seem good, so maybe it’s a good spot to sit and have some coffee or for people who eat meat and want to try something similar but vegan.
