Driftwood Sandwich Shop Introduce
For those navigating the charming streets of Southport in Fairfield County, Connecticut, discovering a true local gem for a quick bite or a relaxing coffee is a valuable find. **Driftwood Sandwich Shop**, located on Pequot Avenue, is one such establishment that has cemented its place in the community. Functioning expertly as both a dedicated **sandwich shop** and a welcoming **coffee shop**, Driftwood caters to the morning commuter, the midday lunch-seeker, and anyone needing a quality cup of joe.
The establishment is known for its dual focus, offering the hearty, satisfying fare expected from a classic sandwich deli alongside the comforting beverages of a local coffee spot. As a fixture in the quaint, historic village of Southport, the shop provides an experience that is decidedly local and intimate, standing apart from larger, more impersonal chains. It’s a place where the food tradition of New England—particularly the love for a well-made breakfast—is proudly upheld.
Customer feedback about Driftwood often highlights its unique, small-scale atmosphere. It is frequently described as a **"tiny cozy place"** with an open kitchen, fostering an intimate, almost familiar dining environment. This small interior, sometimes adorned with nostalgic art depicting **"Old Southport,"** contributes to its unique, authentic local character. One long-time local patron praised the spot for its **"absolutely adorable"** atmosphere and consistently **"delicious"** food over the years, particularly applauding the service as being **"at the highest level."**
However, like many truly local, non-corporate establishments, the experience can vary. While many cherish its quaintness, others have noted that the intimate setting, combined with a potentially focused staff working diligently in the open kitchen, can sometimes lead to an initial moment of awkwardness upon entry. For instance, one reviewer mentioned a lack of immediate greeting, which, in the tiny setting, felt unusual. This duality of customer feedback—from **"great clean place"** with top-tier service to a slightly strange first impression—suggests a vibrant, real-world local business that operates with its own pace and personality, valuing the quality of the food and the ultimate satisfaction of its regulars.
The shop’s reputation is largely built on its core offerings. A standout highlight is their execution of the **bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich**, often served on the classic, crisp Connecticut hard roll—a dish one enthusiast called the **"cornerstone dish"** of breakfast, perfected by Driftwood. This attention to regional favorites and quality ingredients is what anchors the shop's appeal to its local base, ensuring a loyal following for both its breakfast and lunch services.
Driftwood Sandwich Shop boasts an excellent location at **325 Pequot Ave, Southport, CT 06890**. This address places it directly in the heart of Southport, a highly desirable and easily navigable area within the greater Fairfield County region. Pequot Avenue is a central artery, ensuring great visibility and accessibility for both neighborhood residents and those traveling between nearby towns like Fairfield and Westport.
Its position in a charming, historic district means that a visit to Driftwood is often part of a broader local experience, whether stopping by after a stroll near the harbor or grabbing a quick meal while running local errands. While the space itself is described as small and cozy, the central location makes it highly convenient for quick **takeout** orders—a vital feature for Connecticut residents with busy schedules. Patrons should keep in mind the shop's intimate size when planning their visit, especially during peak meal times, as it is designed more as a quick-service spot or a very cozy sit-down cafe, rather than a large restaurant.
Driftwood Sandwich Shop focuses on straightforward, high-quality services designed to cover the two most important meals of the day, all while serving quality coffee.

- **Coffee & Beverages:** Serving as a dedicated coffee shop, providing hot and cold coffee drinks to pair with meals or enjoy on their own. The shop also features notable treats like the **"unbeatable" Vanilla Milkshake**.
- **Casual Dining:** Providing a small, intimate space for customers to sit and enjoy their meal inside, characterized by its **"tiny cozy place"** feel.
The characteristics that make Driftwood a local standout are tied directly to its size, food quality, and strong sense of place.
- **Quintessential Connecticut Breakfast:** The shop is particularly famous for its expertly prepared **Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich** served on a buttery, crisp Connecticut hard roll, praised as a local perfection of a regional staple.
- **Charming, Intimate Setting:** Described as having an **"absolutely adorable"** and **"tiny cozy"** atmosphere, the small interior features eye-catching details like green booths and stools, providing a unique and memorable local vibe.
- **Dedicated Coffee Offerings:** Functioning as a full coffee shop, it reliably provides quality coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks, including praised items like a **Vanilla Milkshake** and classic apple juice served in an old-timey can.
- **Open Kitchen View:** The setup allows customers a **"bird's-eye view"** of the food being prepared, highlighting the freshness of the ingredients and the hands-on nature of the cooking.
- **Focus on Delicious Sandwiches:** Beyond breakfast, the core identity is a sandwich shop, indicating a commitment to quality lunch meats, fresh toppings, and varied bread options.

May 27 · Vasylios ПетровецьSo this might be a local favorite and might have been a glitch in the matrix, but here’s my first impression when I walked in today:Tiny cozy place that sits three or four couples in a small square room including an open kitchen.Everyone looks at you when you walk in and that’s ok but what’s not is that no one says hello or welcome or how can we help you.The two nice looking ladies who worked there walked by us several times within one foot away and didn’t say a word or a greeting. After about ten minutes standing watching them serve food in paper plates with no gloves I felt like I was in a strange cult. Before I let myself think something was wrong with me I turned around and walked out. (My employee was with me and had the same strange feeling)Totally not being picky and looking for a spot to grab a sandwich or some lunch - couldn’t find a friendly face or food here and wanted to spare people an awkward moment. -went to Sammy’s across the street for the right feel and nice folks
October 13 · Yury Feygin (Amadeus Piano)Although the food and the service was amazing, the “chef” or older lady really treats her employees very nasty! Obviously these kids are in high school and are doing the best but the way they are treated is horrible! Will not be coming back due to how horrible the employees are treated.
December 10 · Anthony WilliamsComfortable, homey spot for local regulars to bring friends to. Great assortment of changing specials to choose from, and from an abundance of everyday choices, for breakfast and lunch. Sundays, I always look forward to, for a changing choice of three Brunch specials.
August 06 · Raymond PrezkopFood is alright, but the older lady is very rude to her customers. We ordered food and had to do a bit of paperwork, she told us to get out after we were done eating. Needs new people working there.
