What is Worth Choosing
When navigating the vast dining landscape of New York City, choosing Emma's Torch Cafe is a decision to prioritize both quality and conscience. What truly sets this cafe apart and makes it an absolute must-visit is the powerful intersection of its mission and its food. You are not just enjoying a meal; you are participating in a proven model of social empowerment that is transforming lives right here in New Brooklyn.
First, the food itself offers a compelling reason to visit. Highly recommended favorites include the satisfying Egg & Cheese on a Biscuit and the more adventurous yet delicious Black-Eyed Pea Hummus Wrap—a testament to the creativity encouraged in the culinary program. For a weekend treat, the brunch menu items like the savory Shakshuka with Eggs (or chickpeas for a vegan option) or the customer-adored Peach Melba Pancake are standout choices that draw crowds. Reviewers frequently note the quality ingredients and fresh, high-quality flavors, with the biscuits and pancakes receiving particularly high praise for being "crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside." Even amidst the occasional feedback on execution that is common in a training environment, the consensus is that the friendly employees and noble cause elevate the entire experience.
Secondly, and most importantly, choosing Emma's Torch means supporting a tangible workforce development initiative. It is a place that honors the American tradition of welcome and opportunity, transforming the narrative around immigration from one of scarcity to one of abundance. The concept is simple yet profound: refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking are paid a full-time minimum wage while gaining up to 440 hours of practical, in-kitchen culinary training, English classes focused on kitchen vocabulary, and vital job readiness skills. This model ensures graduates are prepared not just for a job, but for a meaningful, upwardly mobile career. By spending your dollars here on your next coffee, brunch, or catered event, you are directly contributing to the financial independence and dignity of new New Yorkers.
Emma's Torch Cafe proves that mission-driven business can also be an excellent culinary experience. For New Yorkers looking to dine with purpose, support a women-owned social enterprise, and enjoy some of the most unique and heartwarming food in Brooklyn, Emma's Torch Cafe on Smith Street is the ultimate destination. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1the atmosphere is great, outdoor seating is picturesque.the food wasn't to our liking, the avocado on toast's bread was stale, the eggs was cold, and avo mash lacked seasoning.but all aside the employees were friendly, so it might be they were having a bad day?
September 20 · Yasemin SahinWandered in after the breakfast spot I was planning to go to didnt work out. Completely serendipitous bc this was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in NYC! Adored the biscuit with raspberry preserves and the peach melba pancake. Crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Everything tasted so fresh and high quality. I also felt that the portion of the pancake was perfect. I’m so excited to have found a new fave breakfast spot in BK.
July 26 · ImaniThe pancake and fried chicken sandwiches were BEYOND good. Can’t wait to go back. It’s so hard to find reasonably priced and exciting brunch food- this is my new spot.
August 16 · AnnaEmma’s Torch is one of my absolute favorite places in the neighborhood. I have eaten here a bunch and always look for a reason to support this folks here. The food and service are always 10/10. They are a pillar of the community and I always leave feeling happy and satisfied, whether it’s something from their grab and go, a pastry and an iced tea, or one of their made-to-order items. I most recently had their breakfast wrap and it was delicious, but I also really love their omelette sandwich. Their cinnamon rolls also knock it out of the park.If you happen to be in the neighborhood, don’t miss this spot. They also have a lovely patio! Their team went out of their way to set up a table for us today - so incredibly kind!
March 01 · April IngenitoKnow this organization from having their yum coffee at Grand Army Plaza library. Went to their Smith Street location brookyn. Had the Hawaij mocha [spiced cocoa w/ expresso and milk]. Not my usual. Usually just a coffee girl like a hot Americano. Simple LOL. But liked this cocoa was nice flavor real cocoa. Can not go wrong with expresso and hot milk. Plus had a Cinnabon. Cream on it real cream if ya know what I mean. Lol
