This has become my go-to spot whenever the office cafeteria is closed. Coffee is only $4, and I absolutely love their chicken ramen 馃崪.
August 16 路 Devendra RathoreI came in around noon expecting fresh food at the hot bar. I guess they prepare it a bit earlier for the lunch rush. I sampled a variety of options including: steam veggies, general tso chicken (I believe or maybe another type of Asian chicken that is similar), one calamari, salmon and shrimp.I was a big fan of 鈥楨ssen since 2014. Seems as if they鈥檝e closed all of their locations except this location. There isn鈥檛 much area to sit but there is some seating in the front (from other pics it looks like they may have seating upstairs but I was unaware). The veggies were tasty, the chicken was okay (a little dense), the salmon was alright (not as dry as expected) and the shrimp was so/so- it was difficult to pick pieces that were seasoned evenly. Overall it wasn鈥檛 bad, just very mediocre. Not sure I鈥檇 return soon. Cashier was friendly though it is annoying they charge more for using a card but I guess that鈥檚 not uncommon in NYC anymore.
March 23 路 Hak B茅nI went to this place over the weekend (Saturday) Madison ave location and I notice the prices are not the same when you check out! Please check your receipts! I saw the cashier tip herself and when I ask what she did she clear the screen . Be careful at this location. Anything Essen stay away. I know you鈥檙e gonna lie and say you鈥檙e not open on the weekend. YOU ARE OPEN ON SATURDAYS.
July 25 路 Seth DayvisThe place has a nice atmosphere and I like the music as well as the setup. There should be a restroom though
July 28 路 Luc Biddle (Nalu)I've been going there for almost 2 years. Food is okay and I've never gotten used to their unique hours but I still go. This review isn't about their food though.I went to get breakfast, paid $6.45 for my breakfast sandwich and walked out. I checked my phone and saw that the mobile payment processed. Halfway down the block, the cashier came tapping me on my shoulder to accost me for not paying for my sandwich. I tried to tell her that I paid but she insisted that I didn't and brought me back to the store. She didn't want to hear it. I didn't want to go back and forth on the street because I'm not very confrontational. I was already embarrassed with everyone staring at me thinking that I stole food from a deli.I go back and she pointed at the POS with a new price that said $7.65 and goes "you need to pay that." It wasn't even the same price of my order. It was even more embarrassing because now everyone in line is staring at me as if I stole. I tried to explain but she kept cutting me off telling me to "pay now". After I paid, then she let me tell her that I already paid and showed her my pay app that showed 2 transactions only a few minutes apart and at different prices. Once she tried to refund me the wrong amount, I was really over it. The manager then came over to handle it and refunded my $7.65. We're all human and mistakes happen but this was just really bad and again, embarrassing. If I was the manager, I would have refunded my entire order. It definitely felt like discrimination which I hate to say but with that feeling, I won't be going back to Essen again.
