Famous Famiglia Introduce
In a city where pizza is a way of life, finding a reliable and unpretentious slice joint is a crucial part of the New York experience. Famous Famiglia, located at 2859 Broadway, is a brand that has become a fixture in this landscape, providing a no-frills, straightforward approach to classic New York pizza. This location, situated on the bustling Upper West Side, serves as a convenient stop for a quick lunch or a casual meal. The atmosphere is that of a "typical greasy pizza joint," which for many is a nostalgic and comforting part of the city's culinary identity. While it may not be a destination for gourmet, wood-fired pies, it offers a familiar and accessible menu that caters to a wide audience looking for a traditional slice. The brand's history is rooted in a family story of immigration and hard work, with a commitment to using family recipes, a detail that adds a layer of authenticity to the experience. For many, Famous Famiglia represents a classic, dependable slice of New York life.
The core of Famous Famiglia's menu is centered around its pizzas, available both by the slice and as whole pies. The pepperoni pizza, for example, is a classic option, though as one review noted, it can be "extra greasy," a characteristic that some pizza lovers embrace as part of the authentic New York style. Beyond the standard slices, the restaurant offers a variety of pizza types, including Sicilian, Grandma, and specialty pies like the "Famiglia Special" and "Pizza Bianca." This variety ensures that patrons have plenty of choices, whether they want a simple cheese slice or a more elaborate combination. The menu extends beyond pizza to include other Italian American staples such as baked calzones, strombolis, heroes, and pasta dishes like baked ziti and lasagna. While some customers have expressed disappointment with the food's flavor, describing it as "no flavor whatsoever and a little dry," others have had positive experiences with their food. The presence of a "big seating area in the back" provides a welcome space for dine-in customers, a feature that adds to the convenience and makes it a suitable spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The staff's proficiency in Spanish, as noted by a customer, also adds a unique and welcoming touch for a portion of the neighborhood's clientele.
The overall experience at Famous Famiglia is one of speed and functionality. It is designed for those who need a quick meal without a long wait, a common requirement in New York City. While some of the more in-depth customer reviews point to inconsistencies in quality and flavor, the restaurant maintains its presence by offering a consistent and affordable product. The pricing, for instance, with a slice of pepperoni pizza at $5, is considered typical for a New York pizza joint. The frustration with the lack of fountain sodas, and the presence of only canned options, is a small detail that speaks to the classic, no-frills nature of the establishment. This is not a place that focuses on trendy, boutique offerings, but rather on providing a straightforward and traditional pizza experience. The menu is expansive, and while individual experiences may vary, the restaurant's longevity and multi-location presence suggest that it provides a product that many people find to be a satisfying and convenient choice. For residents of the Upper West Side, it is a known quantity鈥攁 place they can rely on for a quick slice and a full menu of Italian American favorites.

Typical greasy pizza joint. $5 for a slice of pepperoni. Big seating area in the back. Everyone here speaks Spanish - which I love. I miss fountain sodas. So tired of restaurants that only serve can soda. The pepperoni pizza was extra greasy.
May 01 路 O V HAte here with my mom after a doctor's appointment. Not impressed with the pizza, no flavor whatsoever and a little dry. The salad was just lettuce, tomato, peppers and tomato. Not worth the money. Won't be returning.
September 15 路 Lisa Michelle MuranoThis will always be my first favorite pizza store in New York City. Also, the staff is kind polite and respectful to me and all their customers and I rate this location 999 trillion stars. And very sad I don鈥檛 work in the area, but I will be back soon for some pizza 馃槈
September 04 路 TonyWe were really disappointed with our recent visit to Famous Famiglia. The pizza was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. When we asked if it could be heated, the staff seemed annoyed and unwelcoming. The service overall was poor, and to make things worse, we were overcharged by $20. When we brought it to their attention, they acted like it was an inconvenience to fix their mistake. My husband ended up throwing his pizza away, and we both regretted not trusting our gut. When we walked in, the place was completely empty, which should have been a red flag. Sadly, it鈥檚 not what it used to be. We gave it a chance, but won鈥檛 be returning.
April 30 路 Iris PaulinoAs pizzerias go, this is good. They're nice. Ambiance is good--big mural of Venice on the back walls, painted by a local artist, 80s/90s music usually playing. I highly prefer this vibe to Koronet across the street.
