Halal Cart Introduce
In New York City, the term "Halal Cart" transcends its simple definition, representing a cornerstone of the city’s street food culture and a reliable source of filling, flavorful, and affordable meals. The establishment located near the intersection of West 7th Street and McDonald Avenue in the Borough Park/Midwood area of Brooklyn embodies this essential New York experience. Operating under the simple, universally recognized name of "Halal Cart," this spot serves as a consistent hub for local residents, commuters, and those seeking a quick, satisfying Halal meal.
Categorized as both a Halal restaurant and a food court (implying a fixed location or a grouping of offerings), this spot is a go-to choice for classic comfort food. The menu is focused on delivering the staples that have made Halal cuisine a citywide phenomenon: hearty portions of rice, seasoned meats like chicken and lamb, and the signature white and hot sauces. It is celebrated as a destination popular for lunch, dinner, and solo dining, fitting seamlessly into the fast-paced daily life of Brooklynites who value efficiency and flavor in a casual setting.
However, as with many street food and local institutions, the customer experience can be variable, a factor that is often debated among loyal patrons. While the fundamental allure is the promise of quick and familiar tastes, New Yorkers know that the quality of service and food can fluctuate depending on the time of day and the operator on duty. This location is part of that authentic, ever-changing, high-stakes culinary ecosystem that defines New York food culture, offering a unique opportunity for a true taste of local Brooklyn life.

What is Worth Choosing
For New Yorkers in the Borough Park/Midwood area, choosing the Halal Cart on West 7th Street comes down to prioritizing convenience, value, and specific dining needs. This establishment offers several compelling reasons to visit, while also requiring an understanding of the typical street food experience.
The primary reason it is worth choosing is its unparalleled convenience as a source of Halal comfort food. For those who need a quick, affordable, and filling meal while traveling or working in the 11204 area, the Halal Cart is a reliable option for lunch or dinner. The food—the classic combination of seasoned meat and rice—is a satisfying benchmark of New York cuisine, perfect for a speedy takeout order.
Furthermore, the offering of Halal food is a non-negotiable factor for many customers. The cart’s designation confirms its commitment to providing meals that meet these important dietary standards, ensuring inclusivity and trust for a large demographic of the city’s population. The potential for late-night service also makes it a valuable resource when most other establishments are closed, catering to the needs of night shift workers or late-night commuters.
However, potential patrons should note that this venue offers the authentic, high-variability experience of New York street food. The customer reviews highlight a common theme in this sector: service quality and portion sizes can depend on the specific staff member on duty. While some employees are noted for being "friendly" and "honest," others are accused of being "stingy" or "greedy," even going so far as to allegedly short-change customers on portions by using smaller container lids. This variability requires customers to be observant and direct in their ordering.
Ultimately, the Halal Cart is worth choosing for the classic taste of New York comfort food, its excellent value proposition, and its indispensable role as a convenient, certified Halal option in its specific Brooklyn location. Patrons who understand and accept the typical, no-frills, sometimes inconsistent nature of street-side dining will find this cart a faithful provider of one of the city's most beloved and iconic meals.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Worst halal spot I've ever tried. Was craving some halal food and came off the train and decided to give this place a try. I decided to get a combo (chicken and lamb over rice). Let me start off with the rice being clumpy, chicken dry and the vegetables not cooked. When he put the lamb on the grill he took out one piece from the container for my dish. Meanwhile the customer before me got several pieces for 2 orders they got. When packing up the food the guy purposely flipped the container so the lid was on the bottom to give you less food (since the lid is smaller). This place is horrid. Don't be tricked by the 4.1 stars it got. Avoid this place at all cost save your money and go elsewhere
June 13 · James YeeThe food tastes good as usual, but depending on what time of the day you go and who is working there, you might get ripped off. In the middle of the night around 2-3 AM, the younger gentleman working there is very friendly honest and I always have a nice chat with him. But avoid it if you see the older man with a beard because he is stingy, greedy and dishonest. This older man ALWAYS uses the top lid of the box to serve the food because it is 5 millimeters shorter than the bottom part of the box. In my most recent visit, I asked for extra meat, which costs $3 more, for a total of $12. When the food was ready, I handed him $15. He asked me why and I responded by saying it is for the extra meat. He looked confused and gave me back $3 in change. This made me skeptical so I asked him to confirm that he gave me the extra portion of meat that I paid for. He said yes and I took his word for it. I get home and open my box of food and there was no extra meat. I don't mind paying more for more food so that I can enjoy it the way I want. Why do you have to be so greedy that you charged me more for something you didn't give me, especially even after I asked once more for confirmation? If I encounter this man again working there I will just go somewhere else.
January 18 · Jackie WongI love this place and used to order this every paycheck. You can go there at 3 am and have a nice conversation with the cook while waiting for your food. They are also very good listeners and make sure your order is made right.Compared to most deli halal I've had-this one doesn't have firm or dry meat. Even other halal carts just has this certain texture I don't like compared to this place that has perfectly cooked rice and nicely grilled meat.Only reason it isn't 5 stars is because the price skyrocketed over the past years. I remember it used to be 5/6 dollars for a platter but now costs 9 dollars. Covid made the price really go up but even before it was going up to 7 bucks. They don't have cucumbers with their salad but their food is so fresh and vegetables are very good quality!
August 04 · Christi PetkovFood is great, got my brother to try after years of him saying no. He's likes it too B)
