The food and service was really good! 👍🏻I am not someone that really likes eel but it was really good! The boss lady was really nice. I had my nephew with me and she went out of her way to cut up the eel and meat that we order to kid size. She made sure that my nephew was also enjoying himself. She also told us how to eat the eel, with the leaf and chives (? I think it was those?) - RuoQiong Lin

Hareubang Dol Gui Introduce

If you are a New Yorker seeking an authentic and unique Korean culinary experience, look no further than the bustling heart of Flushing, Queens. Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the Murray Hill Food Alley, a true hidden gem shines: Hareubang Dol Gui. This Asian-owned establishment is far more than just another Korean barbecue spot—it's a specialist in traditional Korean grilled dishes, with a particular focus on the highly nutritious and incredibly delicious fresh grilled eel (Unagi), prepared using a time-honored method.

The name itself provides a clue to its specialty. In Korean, "Gui" (구이) translates directly to "grilled dish," which is a cornerstone of Korean cuisine, encompassing everything from marinated beef to savory seafood. While the exact meaning of "Dol" is often debated in this context, it generally translates to "stone," suggesting a traditional stone-plate or hot-stone grilling method, which is highly praised for evenly cooking and sealing in the flavors and nutrients of the meat or fish. This technique ensures a perfectly cooked and tender result every time. For New Yorkers familiar with high-quality K-BBQ, Hareubang Dol Gui offers a comforting yet elevated dining experience that is both casual and incredibly satisfying. Whether you are craving the classic beef and pork cuts or the nourishing eel specialty, this restaurant delivers a taste of home for Korean locals and an exciting discovery for adventurous foodies in the Tri-state area.

The restaurant's focus on specialty items like fresh eel, or San Jang-eo Gui (산장어구이), sets it apart in the dense Queens dining landscape. Customers consistently highlight the freshness and flavor of the eel, a dish revered in Korean culture for its nutritional benefits and restorative qualities. It is clear from guest reviews that the commitment to authentic, high-quality ingredients and attentive service are key ingredients to their success. One diner noted that the grilled eel on the stone plate was "really fresh and the food was excellent," and another specifically called out the friendly "boss lady" who went "out of her way" to provide attentive service, even cutting up food for a child, which speaks volumes about the welcoming atmosphere.

The menu is expertly curated to feature the best of Korean barbecue, along with hearty comfort foods. Guests can indulge in prime beef cuts like Kkot Deungshim (꽃등심), a prime ribeye, or Teuk Galbi (특갈비), special beef ribs, alongside popular pork dishes like Samgyeopsal (pork belly) and Moksal (pork shoulder). Beyond the grill, the menu extends to traditional stews (jjigae and tang) and other stir-fried specialties. They also offer a selection of classic Korean beverages, including various types of Soju and traditional drinks like Bokbunjaju (Korean black raspberry wine), making it a complete destination for an authentic Korean night out.
