September 13 · liasoooo excited a hungry ghost is on this block! great atmosphere and as always, great coffee. I love the outdoor tables and the impact that will have on the corner and the neighborhood! can’t wait to go back :))
September 03 · dani gThis quickly turned into a Park Slope coffee shop with oblivious suburban moms taking up the entire place with three kids running around while they read stories to them out loud for all of us to hear. Food scattered everywhere. Lonely middle-aged men with their vested dogs obsessively giving them training treats every two minutes for doing nothing more than paying them desperately needed attention. Occasionally these two groups merge and become twice as obnoxious. This is not your house people! There’s a lovely old man along the wall every day who breaks out in song occasionally singing along with the playlist he has memorized over the last two years. And there is a gorgeous mystery woman straight out of a 1979 movie in a long leather coat who diligently works on something looking very detached and busy. The staff is a bed-headed tummy-bearing group of nonchalantly disheveled sexy hipsters who talk to each other incessantly about the inanities of being twenty-something in 2025. Harmless and charming. The espresso drinks are mediocre but not terrible. Variety is better with more space but Ghost is an option if you are willing to take a chance on the atmosphere. You may find yourself in a Borders Books circa 1999 without notice.
March 23 · Dali LlamaGreat drip coffee (Stumptown beans), welcoming atmosphere and friendly baristas. A special thanks to the staff for accommodating my service dog in-training and me for the past 9 months. The puppy is part of the largest service dog training organization in the country and will someday work with a person in a wheelchair or a veteran with PTSD or a child with autism. It might seem like a passive activity for him to sit quietly in a cafe, but it's crucial training for him to learn from a very young age to be still at the side of his handler. It's also a part of his socialization training to interact calmly with kids. My husband and I will soon be saying a tearful goodbye to the puppy as he enters formal professional training. His time spent at Hungry Ghost has been a huge and helpful part of his development. You have my deepest appreciation, thank you!
