Irie Jerk Chicken Introduce
Welcome to Irie Jerk Chicken, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, bringing the authentic, vibrant flavors of Jamaican cuisine to the New York City community. In a city brimming with diverse dining options, finding a spot that truly captures the essence of a traditional dish is a rare treat. Irie Jerk Chicken is that spot, celebrated by locals for its commitment to classic Jamaican recipes and a warm, inviting atmosphere. This restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it is a destination where the rich history and bold tastes of the Caribbean are served on every plate.
The journey to creating a truly authentic jerk chicken is a labor of love, and it's a dedication that is immediately apparent at Irie Jerk Chicken. The meticulous process of marinating chicken in a complex blend of spices and herbs, including fiery Scotch bonnet peppers, allspice, thyme, garlic, and ginger, is what gives the meat its signature flavor. This is followed by the traditional method of grilling, which imparts a smoky, aromatic quality to the tender, moist meat. Patrons consistently praise the perfectly cooked chicken, which is tender to the bone and packed with flavor, so much so that some argue it is delicious even without sauce. However, for those who love an extra kick, the restaurant offers an impressive array of over ten different sauces, including their famously spicy chili jerk sauce. This dedication to both flavor and tradition is what sets Irie Jerk Chicken apart, making it a standout in a borough known for its exceptional Caribbean cuisine.
The menu at Irie Jerk Chicken goes beyond just its namesake dish, offering a comprehensive tour of Jamaican culinary classics. From succulent oxtails and flavorful curries to fresh seafood and delicious sides, there is something to satisfy every craving. Many of the dishes are described as "fall-off-the-bone tender," a testament to the slow-cooking methods that lock in flavor and moisture. Whether you're a long-time fan of Jamaican food or a newcomer eager to explore, the variety and quality of the offerings make every visit a delightful experience. The generous portions are another point of pride, with customers frequently noting the excellent value for the price, a true bonus in the bustling and often expensive New York food scene.
Beyond the food, the experience at Irie Jerk Chicken is defined by the friendly and welcoming staff. Many reviews highlight the kind and knowledgeable service, with one customer recounting a conversation with a Bajan woman chef who shared the history of the restaurant while preparing their meal. This personal touch, combined with a casual and comfortable atmosphere, makes every guest feel right at home. It’s a place where you can relax and enjoy a fantastic meal, whether you’re dining in, picking up an order, or having it delivered to your door.
With its focus on authentic flavors, high-quality ingredients, and a dedication to customer satisfaction, Irie Jerk Chicken has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a taste of the Caribbean in New York. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Having lived in Brooklyn for over a decade, I’ve had my fair share of jerk chicken, from various places - hole in the walls, fancy restaurants, carts, and of course, backyards. Hits and misses. I have my one sacred, tried and true jerk chicken spot that never fails me. However, I saw this place as I was walking to my job and I decided to give them a try. One of the best decisions I’ve made all year. The jerk chicken here is incredible. Watching them cook it up fresh was a unique experience while the chef was detailing the history of the restaurant and how amazing the price and portion you actually get for it. Little did I know, the chef, a lovely and kind Bajan woman would be cooking up one of the best bites I’ve had all year.Don’t know where you’ll get that amount of chicken for $7, and a free slice of bread? Which seems to be a lost relic for jerk spots nowadays. It’s hard to beat that value, especially in this financial climate. The chicken itself was tender, yet cooked through with that traditional grill texture but still moist. The meat was flavorful and had that classic char but it did not carry a BURNT flavor. One thing that did set them apart from all the other jerk spots I’ve been too? The sauces. I forgot to count, but I believe they had over 10 different sauces. I rarely put sauce on my jerk chicken, cause in my opinion, the best jerk chicken has no sauce. All the flavor should come from the meat and seasonings. But I couldn’t resist. All in all.. this might be my new favorite spot. Even though I did cover it in 3 different sauces.. the flavor was still there.I plan to come back, for the large next time and I’ll cover half in sauce and leave the other half dry.Long story short…One of the best pure jerk chicken spots in ALL of NY. Please give these great people a try!
May 27 · MathThe lady at the front was really friendly and made us up a plate right away, rice with chicken was about $20 for a big portion. PSA the chili jerk sauce is spicy! Next time may try without sauce
September 01 · Lauren MDelicious jerk chicken! Spice level, color and flavor was top tier! I wish I could've gotten more before leaving town but I will definitely be back to try their other options.
April 27 · Kymberli C.The jerk chicken taste good 8 out of 10 on the chicken, but the rice have no taste. It’s bland 1 out of 10 on the rice … The place needs an upgrade and they can work on the customer service for sure … Jah bless no mahn curse
May 31 · Dj Marcuss_lifeChicken was amazing , some of the best in the area and I’ve tried a bunch. The problem is their system … 50 minutes for a small chicken order???? Clearly y’all need to buy another drum, hire another set of hands and figure something out. It’s just sad that business in the community run this way and when more gentrified fast casual options pop up people complain… the food is good but they have to do better they don’t community on wait time , who is where in line, and then when you get to the digital register for some reason the slow cashier still has to calculate it on a calculator….. then punch it in the DIGITAL IPAD. Mi seh hungry did a kill me , if they lady who jerk the chicken ain’t come out with a foil of festival and gave it to us standing on the line… in the non air conditioner cramped space.. for free , a bbc would’ve probably slipped out kmt. Do better … this had the potential to be great.
