The area Jade Bakery is located has many amazing shops, but even double-parking is difficult. Jade is located in a less busier corner, and I found double-parking so I went in. I love this type of atmosphere, food on trays, baking in the back, focus on practicality, not decor, no pretensions - it is exactly what it is supposed to be - a neighborhood bakery that caters to people on their way to work. So, the food. I am very particular about my steamed buns - their's didn't pass - thick dough, not soft billowy. The filling was pork/vegetable, not tasty and very minimal- too little for the bun. The shrimp rice noodles was a winner - hand-made, not pre-made rice noodles, and six fresh shrimps. The last item was wrapped peanut sticky rice, really light, fresh, and tasty. The bun, white noodle with shrimp, and peanut sticky rice, $7.00. I added an iced coffee, $10.50. ( Beware: I was there at 8 am, but they had already sold out: shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, beef balls, and shumai) - Maria DiMaggio

What is Worth Choosing

For those new to Jade Bakery, the choice should be guided by their specialties. While the full array of dim sum is tempting, and certainly worth trying, the standout items that have cemented their reputation are the ones that showcase their commitment to traditional Cantonese techniques.

First, the **Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls** (Cheung Fun) are a must-try. Opt for a classic filling like fresh shrimp or beef, as the hand-made noodles provide a textural experience that is a marked difference from mass-produced versions. The inclusion of six fresh shrimps in the shrimp variety is a testament to the bakery’s quality standard.

Second, the **Custard Cocktail Buns** are a highly-recommended baked item. They are described as soft, delicious, and having a sweet coconut center that evokes a sense of comforting, home-style baking, making them perfect for an afternoon treat or breakfast. Similarly, the **Coconut Cream Bread** is a repeat order for many loyal patrons.

Finally, for a hearty and satisfying start to the day, one of the **Steamed Rice Boxes** (Zheng He Zai Fan), such as the Spare Ribs or Cured Meat varieties, offers a perfectly prepared, warm meal that is quick and robust. It's important to note that popular dim sum, like shrimp dumplings and shumai, often sell out early, making a morning visit essential for the fullest selection.

In summary, Jade Bakery is an essential stop for New Yorkers in Brooklyn seeking authentic Chinese baked goods and freshly steamed Cantonese delicacies, delivered with a focus on quality and a friendly, no-fuss neighborhood spirit.
