Since its founding in 1929 by Italian immigrant Giovanni "John" Sasso, the pizzeria has captivated generations of New Yorkers with its unwavering commitment to tradition and quality. The secret to its success is a continuously burning coal-fired brick oven, which imparts a distinct smoky flavor and a perfectly charred, crispy crust that cannot be replicated. The atmosphere inside is as much a part of the experience as the food itself—casual, cozy, and filled with a sense of history. The walls and wooden booths are famously etched with the names of countless patrons, a testament to the long-standing love affair between the restaurant and its loyal customers. This is a place where there are no shortcuts and no gimmicks; just simple, high-quality ingredients transformed into what many confidently call one of the best pizzas they've ever had. While there may often be a wait to get in, the experience is consistently described as being worth every minute. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ John’s of Bleecker Street – New York, NYDisclaimer: This is my personal experience. If something doesn’t go as planned, I always recommend giving the place a chance to make it right. Most spots want to earn your trust. That said, here’s my take:I stopped in at John’s of Bleecker Street and had what I can confidently say was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.The crust was perfect — crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, with that subtle char only a brick oven can give. Sauce was rich and fresh, cheese was melted just right, and the toppings were balanced and full of flavor. Nothing greasy, nothing overpowering. Just a classic New York pie done at the highest level. The place itself is no-frills and filled with history. You can feel the legacy in the walls and taste it in every bite. Staff was efficient and kept the line moving without rushing anyone. If you're visiting New York and love real pizza, this place is a must. No gimmicks. No shortcuts. Just amazing pizza, start to finish.
September 19 · Gregory WhittetThis pizza lived up to the hype it’s delicious. We got a half pepperoni and mushroom. We came on a Monday evening at 5:30 table for two and seated right awhile. We had our pizza pie with in 20 mins of ordering. Great atmosphere. The pizza is freaking good! Hard to have such a reputation and have people satisfied.
August 27 · Doug WThe pizza was excellent. The service was good there's nothing bad about the place. It certainly is a family friendly establishment. But I will say I don't think you can go wrong where you get pizza in the city. I think if you stop and get a $2 slice it would be just as good. And I'm certainly not knocking John's I'm simply saying that there are a lot of good pizza joints in Manhattan.
August 03 · SteveWe went on a Friday around dinner time and there was a longer line, around 30 minutes. I think it was worth the wait. Whoever brought the glasses did seem to have a bit of an attitude, but after a 30 minute wait I just laughed it off and every other interaction we had was pretty good. The pizza was very good. The ATM was down, which is a little annoying, because they give a cash discount and I would have been willing to use cash had the machine been working. It's not like the place could possibly be starving for money to the point where they can't get it fixed given the crowd. Place looked nice in it's way, lots of pictures with people who have eaten there and scratched in messages all over every surface.
September 08 · Dan OliverJohn’s of Bleecker Street is definitely a must if you’re looking for real New York pizza. Honestly, one of the best pizzas I’ve had in my life the sauce, the cheese, and the perfectly crispy crust were all amazing. You can tell everything is made with care and tradition. We had the pepperoni with jalapeños and it was out of this world. The calamari, though, was disappointing not crispy at all and kind of chewy. But the pizza totally made up for it. Luckily we didn’t have to wait, but the place was packed the whole time. Solid service, great vibe, and worth a visit if you’re in the city. I’ll definitely be back.
