The true gem of Aoko Matcha is its distinctive multi-level Matcha Gelato. This is the one item that truly sets the shop apart and provides an unparalleled tasting experience. For a deep dive into the world of matcha, it is highly recommended to get the Triple Gelato with levels 1, 3, and 5. This allows you to taste the full spectrum of flavor intensity, from the sweetest "crowd favorite" Level 1 to the "very intense, bitter and slightly grainy" Level 5, which a customer review describes as "absolutely unreal." For those who are new to matcha or prefer a sweeter profile, Level 1 and Level 2 are excellent choices, offering a balanced and enjoyable flavor. Level 3 is a great middle ground with a "sweet aftertaste," while Level 4 provides a "very rich" taste with a hint of sweetness. For a truly authentic and powerful matcha experience, Level 5 is the ultimate choice.
Beyond the gelato, the Parfait selection is another must-try. These meticulously crafted desserts are a feast for the eyes and the palate. The Matcha Warabimochi Parfait and Matcha Mochi Parfait are popular options that offer a delightful combination of soft serve, mochi, and other delicious layers. For a warm beverage, the Matcha Latte is a classic and comforting choice. However, if you are feeling adventurous, the Matcha Jelly Latte is highly recommended for its unique texture and rich flavor. Don't sleep on the other unique menu items, like the Black Sesame Gelato, which is described as "nutty and delicious," or the variety of matcha and hojicha Cakes, such as the Matcha Tiramisu and Matcha Mille Crepes. These offer a different way to experience the exquisite flavors of Aoko Matcha's premium ingredients. For a full experience, mixing and matching from different categories, like a scoop of gelato with a specialty latte, is the perfect way to truly appreciate the breadth of their menu.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I once had the famous 7-level matcha gelato in Asakusa, Tokyo. Level 7 there ruined all other matcha ice creams for me… UNTIL I tried Level 5 at Aoko Matcha. This is, without a doubt, the RICHEST matcha gelato I’ve ever had. Absolutely unreal!!The utimate guide of what you should get:- Level 5: very intense, bitter and slightly grainy matcha (my top pick)- Level 4: very rich matcha but with a slight hint of sweetness.- Level 3: slightly bitter with a sweet aftertaste.- Level 2: a well balance of sweet and earthy.- Level 1: a crowd favorite—sweetest among all.To get the full experience, I strongly recommend getting triple with level 1, 3, and 5 — these three levels taste divine together.Don’t sleep on their black sesame gelato — it is nutty and delicious. Hojicha gelato is good but a tad too sweet for my liking.*single $5.25, double $6.50, triple $7.95*matcha/hojicha jelly latte $7.25
August 17 · Ruby ChanOne of a kind in NY like they have in Japan, though the ones in Japan have even more levels of intensity. Taste and texture for both the ice creams and soft serve were great. It was only a few min wait on a Friday evening. Intensity 5 was a bit too bitter for me. Liked intensity 3 the most. But that’s just my opinion.
September 12 · Jing YangI went during the soft opening and the wait line wasn't that long. The store itself was decorated nicely with beautiful furniture and warm vibes. The owner Bella was there and she was super friendly and welcoming. I initially saw this place on instagram so I came and tried it out and it did not disappoint. I got the matcha level 5 (5 different levels of matcha from sweet to bitter), hojicha, and black seasme. The matcha wasnt extremely bitter and it had the perfect balance of taste and aftertaste. My friend says that it tastes legit, like the ones in Japan. I would say that the hojicha was really good and the black seasme wasn't that bad either. Highly recommend.
August 30 · Vanna LeiYES! So happy they finally brought this to NYC! This is the matcha spot we've all been waiting for.Love that you get to try different levels of matcha intensity! The flavor was spot-on. I loved Level 5, though be warned, it was a little too bitter for my friend so we opted for level 4 & 3.And love that they have seats inside, which is great for yapping. And I'd recommend going on the weekend, the lines are way shorter surprisingly
September 06 · Cecilia LeeI’ve been wanting to try this place since I heard it was going to open. It was pretty busy but the service was super fast. I got the matcha gelato intensity/level 2 and the matcha frappe with mochi (not pictured). They allowed samples of the different levels, level 2 was super tasty and I definitely want to go up in intensities next time I go. The matcha frappe was just as delicious too!
