KGB Bar Introduce
In the heart of Manhattan’s vibrant East Village, a bar unlike any other awaits. KGB Bar is a destination that transcends the typical New York City nightlife scene, offering a truly unique and atmospheric experience. While its name and some of its decor might evoke a specific historical era, the bar’s true identity lies in its rich history and its commitment to arts and culture. The building itself has a fascinating past, having once been a speakeasy owned by the notorious Lucky Luciano. Later, it served as a private social club for Ukrainian socialists. Today, it operates as a "Communist chic" literary and performance venue, with walls adorned with propaganda posters, Soviet-era memorabilia, and red velvet curtains. This distinct theme, however, is simply a backdrop for a place that's all about community, conversation, and creativity. KGB Bar is a go-to spot for those looking for a non-pretentious, relaxed, and genuinely interesting place to hang out. It's a cozy and trendy establishment that manages to attract both a local crowd and curious visitors, offering a chill vibe that is a welcome change from the typical high-energy bars in the city. The bar's atmosphere is what makes it a memorable experience; it’s a place that feels full of character and history, making every visit feel like a special event.
KGB Bar has carved out a niche for itself by blending its unique aesthetic with a strong focus on live performances and literary events. The bar is well-known for hosting a legendary reading series, attracting a diverse array of writers from budding poets to established literati. This commitment to the arts is a major draw and sets it apart from other bars in the city. The atmosphere is often lively, especially on weekends and during special events, so while it is a small and cozy space, it can get crowded. However, this only adds to the energy of the place. The drinks, while noted by some to be on the pricier side, are well-made, and the selection of alcohol, beer, and wine is excellent. Despite the Soviet-themed decorations, the vibe is far from being a kitschy gimmick; instead, it provides a unique and fun backdrop for a night out. The bar's ability to balance its distinct theme with a relaxed and friendly environment is a key part of its appeal. It’s a spot that’s full of personality and is perfect for a date night or for just a fun time catching up with friends. The staff is known for being friendly and attentive, ensuring that even with a crowd, you’re taken care of and your drink is never empty.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Bar sounded intriguing, but disappointed a bit. The atmosphere is not-LGB at all, except for some thematic posters on the wall. Basically just an american dive bar. Drinks are simple. But it is a chill vibe inside - very non-pretentious.
May 29 · Anton S.If you're looking for a unique and atmospheric bar experience in Manhattan, KGB Bar is a great option. This tiny bar is decorated in a Soviet-themed style, complete with red velvet curtains, propaganda posters, and a statue of Lenin. The atmosphere is definitely unique and fun, but be prepared for a bit of a crowd, especially on weekends. The drinks at KGB Bar are on the pricier side, with a Tito's martini costing $17. However, the drinks are well-made and the atmosphere is definitely worth the extra cost. The food menu is limited, but there are a few small plates and snacks available.Overall, KGB Bar is a great place to go for a fun and unique night out in Manhattan. Just be prepared for a bit of a crowd and a higher price tag than you might be used to.
January 12 · Manny FIt was dark and cozy. As an African Americans, my wife and I were made very comfortable. The drinks were above average, not weak or watered down. This is not a place to go to eat at. Buy the popcorn, have a drink or 2, and enjoy the show. The comedians were 4 stars good.
June 27 · Dana StewartMy new hot spot in town.Located in East village comes this venue that has lot to offer. On the first floor there is a theatre where I attended a one person play and she was very talented. Theatre comes with 20 dollars coverage and optional tips for the performer. Then there s first floor that has KGB bar، super cozy and many seating options.Second floor has the live music, the red room. The owner paid attention to make this place as authentic as possible, great job 👍.
March 13 · Hasanain HasanTwo weeks ago my friends and I came to KGB for some drinks at the end of our night. While the rest of our friends ordered drinks at the bar, me and two of my girlfriends went to use the bathroom together. This is common, no? Here I guess not because the bartender, also female, came charging in and verbally assaulted us forcing us to open the stall door in a compromised position. We were not doing anything illegal, only talking and peeing. We loved this place and had been here many times, sadly I don’t think we can return after the bartender KICKED US OUT after we left the stall calmly and respected her orders. Super wack and disrespectful.
