My first time here at this Hatian bakery. My Hatian and Trini friends keep telling me that their patties are some of the best and tastes very good.So I decided to try it.Got up Friday morning made my way to bakery, where there was paid street parking on Church Ave.I ordered 12 patties ,4 beef,4 herring and 4 saltfish. The herring to me tasted the yummiest because it was a little spicy, and I love spicy foods. So guess what I'm going back today Saturday,to purchase another 12 patties, and their prices are very reasonable.Give them a try if your ever close in the area. - Russell Pierre

It's a place recognized by locals, including those of Haitian and Trinidadian backgrounds, as a reliable source for authentic Caribbean cuisine.

Key features and highlights of this Brooklyn bakery include:

  • Generational Authenticity: La Baguette Shop is a family-owned, French-Caribbean bakery that has been serving the community for over 30 years, proudly preparing family recipes passed down for generations.
  • Critically Acclaimed Patties: The Haitian patties are a standout feature and a major draw. Fillings like the spicy herring patty are particularly popular and highly recommended by customers.
  • "Hole in the Wall" Charm: Described by customers as a "hole in the wall," this distinction is often a sign of a genuinely great, no-frills food spot where the focus is entirely on the quality and flavor of the food.
  • Community Favorite: The bakery is a well-known and highly-recommended spot within the local Caribbean community, often cited on neighborhood forums as the source for "top notch" Haitian patties, particularly the location on Church Avenue.

What is Worth Choosing: The La Baguette Shop Experience

When you visit La Baguette Shop, you are choosing more than just a baked good; you are embracing a piece of Brooklyn’s rich cultural tapestry and a commitment to authentic Caribbean cuisine. The consensus among satisfied locals points to one primary recommendation: the Haitian patties.

The patties are the undeniable stars of the menu. While Jamaican patties are widely available across New York, the Haitian variety offers a distinct and equally delicious experience. The puff pastry shell is light, airy, and rich with butter, enveloping a generously seasoned filling. The high praise specifically for the Herring Patties suggests that this flavor—often described as being deliciously spicy—is a must-try for those who enjoy a little heat with their savory pastry. Ordering a variety, as one first-time customer did with the Beef, Herring, and Saltfish options, is the best way to explore the range of flavors.

Beyond the patties, the foundation of the business, the fresh bread, is worth taking home. A baguette or loaf of traditional Haitian bread is the perfect accompaniment to any Caribbean meal or simply a delightful item to enjoy on its own. The bakery has a reputation for freshness and authenticity in all of its products, reflecting its commitment to upholding generational recipes. While service can sometimes be described as typical New York "hole in the wall" efficiency—meaning less fuss and more focus on the food—the consistent quality of the product is what keeps customers returning, often for multiple dozens of patties at a time. For a true taste of French-Caribbean flavor in the heart of Brooklyn, La Baguette Shop on Church Avenue is an essential New York experience.
