There was a long line when we visited La Tropezienne Bakery on a Saturday morning but the wait wasn’t too bad, about 10 mins. The decor is humble and outmoded with lively ambiance. We got an almond croissant and cinnamon roll with an iced coffee. The portion was great with a reasonable price. However, the texture was kind of cheap and the taste was just okay. The almond filling was light and artificial, which is the type we don’t like. - Hsin Yi Wei

La Tropezienne Bakery Introduce

For New Yorkers seeking a little taste of Parisian charm without leaving the city, La Tropezienne Bakery in East Harlem is a must-visit destination. This humble and well-loved spot is a genuine local find, serving up a wide array of French staples from delicate pastries to hearty sandwiches. The bakery's name is a nod to the famous dessert from Saint-Tropez, and while the decor may be unassuming, the lively ambiance and fresh-baked goods have made it a favorite among neighborhood residents. It’s the kind of place you might walk right by if you don't know it exists, but once you do, it’s a spot you’ll want to return to again and again.

The bakery’s menu is a testament to classic French baking, but with a range of options that appeal to every craving. You can find everything from sweet treats to savory lunch items. Pastries are a major highlight, with selections that include flaky croissants, pain au chocolat, and a variety of danishes. Customers have noted that the macarons are particularly fresh and excellent, with flavors like lemon, strawberry, and a "very fudgy" chocolate that is a "chocolate lover's dream." For a simple and satisfying start to your day, many choose the iconic croissants, which are often described as flaky, buttery, and everything you'd want them to be.

But La Tropezienne is more than just a pastry shop. They also offer a wide selection of savory items, including fresh baguette sandwiches with classic fillings like ham and brie, as well as paninis and quiches. This makes it a great spot for a quick lunch or a more leisurely meal. The bakery also serves a variety of coffees, from iced to hot, and a range of other beverages. The sheer variety of offerings, from a simple cup of coffee to an elaborate, artfully decorated fruit tart, ensures that there’s always something new to try. While one customer found the almond croissant filling to be "artificial," others have praised the quality of their pastries and the freshness of their products, which is a key reason why it has a loyal following.
