Laojiuguan Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a culinary adventure that delves into the diverse regional flavors of China, Laojiuguan, located in the dynamic heart of Brooklyn, offers an authentic and expansive experience. This Chinese restaurant is renowned for specializing in Fuzhou cuisine (a subset of Fujian cuisine), which is celebrated for its emphasis on fresh seafood, clear and subtle broths, and a balanced flavor profile often featuring a light sweet and sour note. Laojiuguan’s menu is a comprehensive showcase of this tradition, providing a deep and genuine taste of Fuzhou right here in the five boroughs.
The vast selection available at Laojiuguan goes far beyond typical Chinese-American fare, making it a valuable destination for food enthusiasts. The menu is meticulously organized into dozens of categories, from hearty 'Soups' and specialty 'Hot Iron' dishes to an extensive list of 'Rice Dishes' and 'Noodle and Side' options. This breadth of choice ensures that every visit can be a unique journey through Fuzhou's culinary landscape, whether you are craving a comforting single set meal or an elaborate, multi-course dinner with friends or family.
While the atmosphere is casual, the food is anything but simple, demonstrating complexity in ingredients and preparation. Unique offerings like Yellow Croaker In Wine Grain Sauce ($22.80), Sauteed Cnchovy With Celery ($30.00), and various 'Dry Pot' selections highlight the restaurant's commitment to authentic, regional specialties. The availability of 'Small plates' and 'Comfort food' makes it an accessible spot for both quick, satisfying meals and leisurely dining experiences.
It is important for potential patrons to note the existence of varying customer experiences, as seen in the provided reviews, particularly concerning pricing communication for non-standard orders. However, the restaurant’s core strength lies in its expansive, authentically regional menu, which draws a diverse clientele, including tourists and locals, eager to explore the flavors of Fuzhou cuisine in New York.

Laojiuguan Reviews
I would rate this place 0 stars if I could. I came here two days ago after work to get some pig bone soup instead of ordering it online for delivery. I showed the front desk that I ordered on the delivery app before and then she was trying to figure out how much it was. She was about to call the boss lady but then the boss lady walked in. The boss lady said that the soup is more expensive on the delivery app and that since I’m in person it would be cheaper so they went with 12$ for two quarts of pig bone seaweed soup. I was happy with the price. Today I ordered through phone call and went back there and it was a different front desk lady. She said it would be 18$ for 2 quarts of the pig bone soup but I told her I came here 2 days ago and it would was 12$. She said that I was lying and gave me attitude then she called the boss lady. Then she wanted to charge me 14$ but I said I literally came here 2 days ago and it was 12$. She said there’s no way 2 quarts of soup is 12$. I said it’s literally all bones that fill up the quarts. She gave me an attitude and called me big sis and said I’m joking right. She was like twice my age. Anyways she basically handed me my food rudely and walked away. I’m never coming back to this place ever again.

November 08 · miemie miemieI read the comments and it was said more than once that the menu was from four years ago. Why isn't the menu updated because no one eats it? If you don't update it, you should tell the customers. A dozen of them are all old menus that mislead the tip. No wonder no customer has any. The old menu says three dishes and one soup are more than 19 yuan. After ordering, they didn't tell the customers the price. We thought it was still the old price. Afterwards, we bought three dishes, one soup and a taro paste for 31 yuan? It’s more expensive than a la carte. No wonder there’s no business. When I asked the clerk, he didn’t know anything. What kind of broken taro paste costs 6 yuan a serving? Why don't you grab it? Forget it if you put it on your own plate. The supermarket plastic boxes make money and are served to customers directly. There is still water on the steamed taro paste. I won't come again. It's a garbage place. I don't want to give it a star.
May 07 · 再吃亿口I ordered three dishes and a soup. If I wanted a yellow croaker, it would cost an extra three dollars. They didn't tell the customer in advance and just calculated the money directly. Whatever you said was the price. The dishes were very oily. The extra fried rice noodles I ordered were all full of sand. Did they not wash the vegetables? They didn't tell me that the menu had been charged. They brought the old menu and asked me to charge as much as I wanted. They also said that it was four years before the epidemic and that prices have gone up. Yes, they have gone up. They haven't changed the menu for four years, so the prices should be changed too! The service was even worse. They looked impatient. The food was so full and they put it back on. Did they find it troublesome to take a bag or were they reluctant to give up the bag to save money? Very bad service attitude and very bad food. I will never go there again.
