Las Leyendas PARSIPPANY Introduce
For New Jersey residents craving a taste of truly traditional Mexican cooking, Las Leyendas PARSIPPANY offers an expansive and deeply rooted menu that moves beyond standard Tex-Mex fare. Located at 71 New Rd in Parsippany, this Mexican restaurant prides itself on delivering a culinary journey through authentic regional flavors, featuring everything from classic street-style tacos to elaborate seafood and specialty platters.
The name "Las Leyendas," meaning "The Legends," hints at a dining experience rich in cultural tradition and bold flavor profiles. While the atmosphere is noted for being casual and cozy—a perfect setting for a relaxed meal—the menu is serious, spanning traditional soups like Pozole and Menudo, a wide variety of Platillos Tipicos (Typical Dishes), and unique offerings like Cemitas, a type of large Mexican sandwich. This combination positions the restaurant as a standout choice for lunch, dinner, and solo dining in the Morris County area, appealing to groups, families, and individuals alike.
A key feature that enhances the dining experience for many New Jersey patrons is the BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) policy, allowing guests to pair their favorite beer or wine with the robust flavors of the cuisine. Despite some variation in customer feedback regarding consistency and seasoning—common challenges in any high-volume, authentic kitchen—many specific items, such as the Enchiladas and the highly praised Tres Leches Cake, are frequently highlighted as excellent choices, showcasing the kitchen’s capability to deliver memorable, homemade flavors.
Las Leyendas is conveniently situated in Parsippany, making it an accessible dining spot for both locals and those traveling through the central-northern New Jersey area. The official address is:

The menu at Las Leyendas is arguably its greatest feature, offering depth and variety that distinguishes it in the local dining scene:
- Authentic Platillos Tipicos: The 'Typical Dishes' menu section is a core draw, featuring complex, traditional preparations such as Mole Poblano De Pollo (Chicken Mole), Chilaquiles, Flautas, and a variety of Enchiladas (including Salsa Roja, Verdes, and De Mole).
- Specialty Meats and Steak: High-quality protein features prominently in items like the Carne Asada, Churrasco Steak, and Bistec Ranchero, showcasing classic Mexican steak preparations.
- The Molcajete Experience: A show-stopping highlight is the Molcajete—a dish served in a heated volcanic rock bowl—available in both a standard version and the spectacular Molcajete Macho, which combines shrimp, mussels, calamari, tilapia, and chorizo in a spicy diablo sauce.
- Street Tacos and Cemitas: Diners can choose from a range of traditional Tacos Tradicionales, including Tacos Al Pastor, Birria Tacos, and Tacos De Carne Asada. The unique Cemitas—such as the Cemita Cubana and Cemita Hawaiana—offer a taste of the large, richly layered regional sandwiches.
- Seafood Selections: The restaurant offers a dedicated seafood section, featuring spicy dishes like Camarones A La Diablo and refreshing options like Spicy Mexican Ceviche and Shrimp Cocktail.
- Homemade Desserts: The in-house dessert menu is a strong closing note, with the highly recommended Tres Leches Cake, Homemade Flan, and Churros.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Shredded melted cheese for plain queso dip. What in the world. Never seen this anywhere else. Sent the picture to others all were baffled. 🤣we sent it back, obviously. Stopped in from out of town, looking for good authentic Mexican food and wow, won't be back. Enchilada chicken meat was very plain and tasted like it was cooked from frozen. I just kept it, trying not to make too much of a fuss. Guy offered a soup but no thank you. Could only taste the Enchilada sauce, which was good just could mostly taste heat. Guy offered a soup but no thank you. Street tacos were tasteless as well without some sort of sauce. Rice was very plain, tasted like vegetable broth. This experience is now a joke in the household. "Don't get Mexican food in New Jersey."
July 01 · Samantha GatesThe food is not good, l am really sorry to say but it is the truth, out of every thing we had, l just can say that the enchiladas and the 3 leches cake were good, actually the cake was excellent, churros were raw in the inside. We were 4 people, ordered Nachos supremo, they were bland ,not really a good bled of favors. Guacamole was fine but we came across the big pit of the avocado inside!!!Also ordered alambre, was dry. Cecina, dry too and supposed to come with queso frito that l didn't see or if it was there l couldn't even identify, no taste at all. Also a cemita Cubana, and it turned To be a huge kind of burnt bun stuffed with a lot of things like tasteless cheese bacon and some meat. Most of the dishes served with bland rice and an ok refried beans. The restaurant itself is cute and colorful.I gave this place a try but no more.
November 10 · Meriam El MansourWorst burrito I ever ate why is this place called what it’s called , stay away this isn’t no where near Mexican food , it’s trash food why do my carnitas look black and taste like crap
July 01 · Izzy MCame here on a busy weekend, they did so many take out orders in the short time I was there I am impressed. Food was good, alpastor and carnitas were top favorite and the chicken was grilled well. The cheese on the generous portion of nachos was the only thing I didn’t like, but the carnitas was so good I didn’t mind. The torta sandwich was huge as was the burrito. So we were able to take some home. Would come back again or get take out.
May 15 · andrew tWonderful ambience and the waitress were so kind and helpful. Their food is delicious as well.
