Choosing Libertine means choosing a classic, high-quality, and genuinely delightful French dining experience. The menu, though brief, is a testament to the kitchen's skill and passion. A must-try item is the Croque Monsieur, which a customer review notes truly rivals—and may even surpass—those found in Paris. The balance of ingredients, and the perfectly buttery and flaky bread, make it a true standout for a lunchtime visit. The Scallop appetizer and the near-famous Duck dish are other highlights that are consistently praised for their flawless execution and rich flavors.
Do not make the mistake of skipping the bread and butter. Described as spectacular, the bread is served with a generous portion of butter that has gained its own reputation. Another decadent dessert is the Chocolate Mousse, which is noted for its rich and outrageous flavor. While some items like the eggs mayo may be a matter of personal taste, the overall quality and purposefulness of every dish on the menu are undeniable.
Beyond the food, the service at Libertine is a major reason for its popularity. Servers are noted for their attention to detail and genuine care for the customers, making the experience feel warm and unpretentious. The wine list, curated to complement the dishes, is another major draw, offering an interesting selection of exclusively French wines. The interior itself, with its spacious design, provides a welcome respite from the typical crowded New York restaurants. Libertine is more than just a place to eat; it's a place to experience the very best of classic French bistro culture, making it an easy choice for anyone looking for an exceptional and memorable meal in the West Village.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Chalkboard menus bereft of adjectives add to the experience as they enable waiters to have a real discussion about food with the people at the table. Their service team relishes this & takes full advantage - it works.Libertines cooking is great. The classics are as well executed and flavour forward as you could hope. The wine list is creative and interesting, the room itself well arranged and quite beautiful - unlike in French bistros, there’s actually room to breathe.Don’t skip bread and butter, in fact go further and actually visit butter mountain in the kitchen.Highlights were the scallop & the near famous duck. The steak tartare had all the balance you’d want with great textures - the chocolate mousse was a chartreuse infused outrageous decadence. Personally I’d skip the much celebrated eggs mayo, unless you have a particular connection to that combo. Our server, (I think his name was nick) deserves special praise - great care and attention, very generous in spirit - a wonderful host. Will return. An easy 5 stars.
March 01 · Jonny BarrettI had a lovely lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in by myself and was able to snag a table right away. The lunch menu is rather limited in a good way. They stick to what I would consider to be Parisian lunch classics.I ordered the croque monsieur and let me tell you….it truly rivals any of them I had in Paris. I would argue it was better. The bread was perfectly buttery and flaky and the proportions of all the ingredients were so well-balanced.My server took good care of me and made sure my drinks were always full.As far as the interior, I appreciate how spaced out the tables are. They didn’t try to just cram as many spots as they could into the restaurant. The owner was the one seating customers. I always note that.Libertine is one of the best lunch spots I’ve been to in a while. I will have to come back for dinner sometime.
May 12 · Midori GrabowskiFrench bistro style food with prices on the higher end. They have their menu on a blackboard which is charming at first but the prices can be quite striking, especially when you actually start to get the portions. The egg mayonnaise is completely not worth it, and the tartare is interesting but virtually four or five bites. The duck is really the star of the meal and it’s executed well enough that I’m willing to accept it’s worth the price tag but it’s still a painfully high price. Desserts are irreverent but tasty which I actually did enjoy. I guess it’s a good spot if you can stomach the bill!
March 27 · Rovik RobertMy new favorite spot. Dinner was ridiculously good. Don’t even get me started on dessert. Service was fun and chill and the ambiance too comfortable to want to leave. Can’t wait to return.
July 12 · Tim THad a lovely experience at this new West Village restaurant. Our favorite dish was the chocolate mousse although everything else we ate was fabulous. We had the scallop and seaweed, steak tartare, gnocchi and the sausage. Flavors were excellent and drinks were on point. The martini was served with the olives in a tiny ice bath on the side! We did notice a large gap between when the appetizers and entrees were served and the restaurant was very loud. It's a scene but with the food to back it up.
