Minetta Tavern is a standout choice in New York City for those seeking an unforgettable dining experience. The main reason to go is undoubtedly the food, particularly the iconic burgers. The Black Label Burger is legendary for a reason—its blend of dry-aged beef creates a juicy, well-seasoned, and intensely flavorful patty that many consider to be the best in the city. While one reviewer had a different opinion, it’s a dish that has consistently drawn rave reviews and is a defining item on the menu. Beyond the burgers, the classic French fare is also exceptional, with standout dishes like the escargots and the onion soup. The menu offers a variety of choices, from rich entrées like the Dry-Aged Côte de Boeuf to delicate seafood and delicious appetizers like the Hand Cut Prime Steak Tartare.
The atmosphere is another major reason to choose Minetta Tavern. It’s a bustling, energetic, and sophisticated space that feels alive with history. The service is consistently excellent, making guests feel well cared for and comfortable even in the lively setting. As one reviewer noted, "The atmosphere and the service, it was lovely." This combination of high-quality food, a superb wine list, and a truly unique ambiance makes the higher prices well worth it for a special occasion or a truly memorable night out. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I can confirm that the rumors are true: this is, without a doubt, the best burger in NYC. It is a fantastic, juicy burger that is well-seasoned. Their onion soup is also a standout dish, and I highly recommend ordering it as a shared appetizer. The restaurant is small, so making reservations is essential! The interior is beautiful and has a lively, bustling atmosphere. The service is excellent. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the experience is worth it!
September 06 · Luana PaivaWe boldly walked in on a Friday night for our anniversary and were seated at the bar after an hour wait - not too bad! You go for the atmosphere and the service, it was lovely. Drinks were delicious and we especially loved the squab and the chocolate soufflé (pictures don’t show how big it is, we couldn’t finish it! Despite our best efforts). I met get hate for this but the burger was just all right for my tastes. I like cheeseburgers and don’t know enough about beef to appreciate the dryagedness🤷 we would 100% go back for a special occasion.
September 04 · Spurthi KonthamEverything was amazing — the food was top-notch, and honestly, it’s the only place I’ve ever really enjoyed a burger. Service was excellent, friendly, and on point. The only downside was the noise level. One guy sitting nearby was screaming at us like an absolute jerk instead of talking like a normal person, which definitely killed the vibe a bit.Otherwise, Minetta Tavern is fantastic. Food amazing, service the best, and overall a memorable experience. Yum! 🍔✨
September 16 · eli goldOne of the best burgers in New York City! We didn’t have a reservation and ended up waiting about an hour or two on a Friday night, finally sitting down for dinner around 11 PM. Even that late, the restaurant was still buzzing, intimate, packed, love the dark lighting , very romantic and full of that classic New York energy. The service was a solid 10/10, attentive and friendly without being rushed. Of course, we ordered their famous burger, and it truly lived up to the hype .perfectly juicy, fresh, and flavorful.Despite the wait, the whole experience was absolutely worth it. We had a lovely evening and will definitely be back.
August 19 · ZoeThis is the first time I sat at the bar instead of dining room in this charming vintage hotspot. The bartender was attentive and engaging, and the customers were talking to and enjoying each other company without constantly looking at their phone. The food (burgers, steaks, fries, french dips, desserts) was amazing as always especially the bone marrow (smokey flavor and buttery with red wine shallots). Last but not the least….great selection of wine and beautifully crafted cocktails.
