Miznon Introduce
New York City's culinary scene is a tapestry of global flavors, and few cuisines have captured the city's attention quite like modern Mediterranean and Israeli food. In a city where quick, delicious meals are a necessity, the humble pita has been elevated to a new form of street food artistry. Among the pioneers of this movement is **Miznon**, a renowned restaurant concept from Israeli Chef Eyal Shani. With locations around the world, Miznon brings its vibrant, flavorful, and incredibly creative take on Mediterranean street food to the heart of Manhattan. The recently opened location in Hudson Yards has quickly become a go-to spot for those seeking bold, comforting flavors in a casual, high-energy setting.
Miznon is more than just a place to grab a meal; it's a culinary experience that celebrates the integrity of fresh, seasonal ingredients. The concept is built around a simple idea: transforming every sense of Tel Aviv’s street food scene into a loud, rustic, and inviting space. The menu is a testament to this philosophy, with dishes that highlight the natural beauty and desires of each ingredient, from perfectly roasted vegetables to tender meats. What sets Miznon apart is its inventive approach, offering both "in-a-pita" creations and "out-of-pita" plates that are a feast for the eyes and the palate. This is a place where every item, whether it's a flavorful brisket sandwich or a whole roasted baby cauliflower, is treated with respect and originality.
While the atmosphere is casual, the quality of the food is anything but. Chef Eyal Shani has built a reputation for his unique culinary language, which focuses on regional Mediterranean products like olive oil, fresh vegetables, and tahini. The result is a menu that is both familiar and exciting, delivering a range of bold, comforting flavors that are perfect for a quick, satisfying bite. Choosing what to order at Miznon is a delightful dilemma, as the menu is filled with unique and delicious options. The "in-a-pita" creations are a great place to start. The brisket pita sandwich, for example, is highly praised for its satisfying portion, rich flavor, and perfect balance of fat. The "Folded Cheeseburger" is another standout, with a unique take on a classic that is said to be as good as any smash burger in town. For those seeking something different, the "Ratatouille Pita" and "Wild Mushrooms" pita are excellent vegetarian options that are bursting with flavor.
However, the true star of the show at Miznon is often the "out-of-pita" dishes. The "Original Whole Roasted Baby Cauliflower" has gained a cult following and is a non-negotiable item for many. Roasted to perfection and served with a simple drizzle of olive oil, salt, and tahini, it showcases how a simple vegetable can become an unforgettable dish. Another favorite is the "Run Over Potato," a paper-thin baked potato served with sour cream, garlic, and scallions. The crispy skin and soft interior make it a perfect side dish.
While the "Intimate (Slow Cooked Beef & Roots) Plate" can be a bit of a mixed bag due to its occasional saltiness, the overall menu and the sheer quality of the other dishes make Miznon a worthwhile destination. The restaurant’s commitment to bold, comforting flavors and its unique approach to street food make it a compelling choice. For its vibrant atmosphere, inclusive environment, and truly exceptional dishes like the roasted cauliflower and flavorful pitas, Miznon is a must-visit for any New Yorker or visitor looking for a memorable Mediterranean meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had the brisket pita sandwich and really enjoyed it. The portion was satisfying, and the brisket had a great balance of fat that added richness without being overwhelming. The flavor was spot on—savory, well-seasoned, and juicy. Miznon does a great job of delivering bold, comforting flavors in a casual setting. Perfect for a quick, flavorful bite while exploring Chelsea Market.
July 29 · Sandra OreMiznon recently opened in Hudson Yards -- I was a huge fan of their Boston location so was excited to come by to give it a shot. The menu seems to be updated daily (not uncommon with newly-opened places), but when we went they had a wide selection of both "in-a-pita" and "out-of-the-pita" options. For the two of us, we ordered the run over potato, the small (e.g. one piece) order of the batata, and the intimate stew (plate). The potato was delicious! I love almost all shapes of potato and this was such a perfectly baked one. It was soft and fluffy, and came with a perfect amount of sour cream and butter with a lovely touch of scallions and garlic.Batata was yummy, too. It was interesting to try the sweet potato with sour cream -- not a combo I've had before, but it did work! The baked texture of the sweet potato -- nicely crispy skin with a tender interior -- was great. The intimate stew was definitely a let down -- in a word, everything was just so salty. The meat was tender and had a decent flavour, but it felt like we had to "drain" the sauce (or otherwise scrape it off), if not eat each bite with a copious amount of the pita, for the flavour to be balanced out. The roots (carrots, parsnip, etc.) were no better - the texture was nicely cooked to softness, but it was just so incredibly salty that we could not finish this dish. This was definitely a mixed bag. I'm not sure to what extent the execution of the main dish can be chalked up to growing pains (esp with how delicious the side dishes were), but I'll probably wait a bit before coming back here again.
June 21 · Matthew HoMiznonFolded Cheeseburger in PitaThis is an interesting spin on an American cheeseburger served in pita bread with different seasonings. The only minor flaw is the white sauce was not spread evenly resulting in a huge glob at the bottom of the pita.
July 07 · Jeff T. CriticPretty average all around. Would like to try a more seasoned location of this chain as this spot feels like it’s still searching for it’s mojo.
July 14 · Kevin FPerfect middle eastern food for every type of eater. Everything is delicious and super fresh. Food is simple yet flavor-packed. My 7-year old devours the falafel and green beans, eating all her veggies without the usual hassle. Also highly recommend the cauliflower pita and “run-over” potato, which is like a cross between a giant potatoes skin and a perfectly baked potato. Make sure to get the bag of green beans, lightly steamed and marinated in lemon, olive oil, and salt, served cold in a bag- like a tastier, healthier version of fries. Very casual and super friendly atmosphere. Almost everything can be made vegan!!
