Choosing Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Westport means opting for an immersive and high-quality dining experience backed by decades of service in the Connecticut community. Its strongest value proposition lies in the sheer breadth of its offering: you can enjoy a fresh, simple Sushi Roll for lunch, host a celebratory dinner around a fiery Hibachi grill, or sample an expertly mixed cocktail at the bar. For those celebrating, the Hibachi is a definite highlight, providing entertainment along with a meal that is consistently praised for being delicious and well-prepared.
It is important to manage expectations, especially regarding the environment. Due to its well-deserved popularity, the restaurant can be packed, and some customers have noted the close quarters and high noise levels, describing the space as "small, packed and beyond over stimulating with the noise." This is a trade-off for dining at a highly successful local favorite, especially during peak hours. Patrons should consider reserving a private Tatami Room or dining outside if they prefer a quieter setting.
While one isolated review mentioned an issue with the flavor of a hibachi meal and the chef’s demeanor, this is contrasted by numerous glowing reviews, like the one celebrating a birthday where the food was deemed "delicious" and the overall experience "wonderful." Moreover, the staff is noted for their friendliness, as seen in the praise for the "friendly attentive bigger gentleman (host?)" who was described as "wonderful." This suggests a commitment to service excellence that prevails despite the occasional busy moment. For a full, reliable, and dynamic Japanese culinary journey in Connecticut—encompassing both exciting food theatre and refined traditional fare—Sakura remains a top-tier choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Food had no flavor , first time in my hundreds of hibachi meals that I left not eating my entire meal. Drinks were not good at all. The hibachi cook was not friendly and had a problem when I asked for no veggies.Place is small , packed and beyond over stimulating with the noise and close quarters.I’m not hard to please but this one was rough for me .I will say 10 stars to the friendly attentive bigger gentleman (host?), he was wonderful!
October 12 · Kitty K.Wonderful experience!! Celebrating my birthday I choose Sakura for my dinner. Have not done hibachi style eating in a long time. What a treat!!! Chose the steak and chicken combo. They first serve you soup 🍜 and salad. 🥗 soup was a bit bland but good. Salad dressing was delicious. They then serve you fried rice and noodles 🍜. Plus stir fried veggies. A few shrimps 🦐 were also included. Next is the meat. All were delicious and if course entertaining to watch it being prepared. Had a Japanese beer 🍺. Very good as well. Also tried the fried ice cream 🍨. Very good too.

May 14 · Laxmi PrasannaMy family has been coming here since the 80s and I try to take anyone I can here to experience the hibachi. The food is always such great quality and the portions are such a good deal for the cost. Drinks are great, sushi is wonderful and fresh, and I always recommend the scallops. I’ll continue to come here until I can no longer!
November 26 · Alexis AwadFirst time having dinner there, after driving by it for many years.First, the good - dumplings and shumai were very good! Martini from the bar was great. The Tokyo curry was pretty good, I wish they did it with regular grilled shrimp instead of breaded shrimp, nevertheless the curry was pretty good. Now the not so good, it was a Saturday night and the noise level in there was almost unbearable - mostly young kids having a birthday party, so thatś ok but it was crazy loud!Ive seen some very positive reviews for the food here but I was very disappointed in the Chirashi I ordered - the quality of the fish was sub-par. Raw fish like that should never have sinew in it, thatś the whole point. Not sure but I think they use that tuna thatś died red, it looked fake. The salmon was mushy, although some of the yellowtail and pieces were fresh and finally one of the pieces was not fresh at all very gamey - the taste was so bad I could not finish the dish. I would reccommend you don´t get the raw fish there- probably my fault for not ordering the Hibachi which is probably the best thing in the place.
