Introduction / Overview
In the heart of Brooklyn's vibrant Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, September stands out as a genuine neighborhood gem, expertly balancing the roles of a welcoming coffee shop, a comfortable cafe, and a relaxing wine bar. Located on Saratoga Avenue, September has quickly become a cornerstone of the local community, especially for residents of Bed-Stuy and Ocean Hill seeking a quality space to connect, work, and enjoy excellent food and drinks. It is a Black-owned establishment, a fact that has been celebrated by local patrons for its contribution to the community's rich and evolving cultural landscape. Since opening its doors, September has established itself as an essential, almost constantly busy spot, which, as many New Yorkers know, is often a great sign of a business doing something right. The atmosphere is generally described as casual, cozy, and trendy, providing a beautifully lit space with a chill vibe, making it a perfect 'second office' for remote workers, a great place for a quick bite, or a spot to wind down with a glass of wine.
September is more than just a place to grab a quick espresso; it’s an intentional community hub. The owner's vision was to create a space for artists, entrepreneurs, and everyday people to feel inspired and unified, a goal that has clearly resonated with the clientele. You’ll often find the space buzzing with conversation, the tapping of laptop keys, and the friendly interactions between staff and patrons. It is a place that successfully bridges the gap between a morning coffee run and an evening social spot, making it a uniquely versatile and valued destination in a neighborhood brimming with new energy.
This Brooklyn favorite is well-regarded for its fast service and a menu that covers all the bases, from morning essentials like strong coffee and fresh pastries to heartier options for lunch. The quality of their offerings, particularly the coffee and the food items like their popular breakfast sandwiches and burritos, often receives high praise. For those looking for a comfortable and dynamic locale that supports local business and fosters community connection, September in Bed-Stuy is a must-visit destination. Whether you're a long-time resident or a newcomer to the neighborhood, you'll find a seat—indoors or on their charming outdoor patio—to savor the local flavor.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing September is about selecting a spot that offers a complete and engaging experience, not just a cup of coffee. It is a location that truly lives up to the ideal of a neighborhood hub, perfectly situated for those seeking both function and flavor in their daily routine. The most compelling reason to visit is the quality of the primary offerings: the coffee is consistently noted as excellent, strong, and flavorful, and the food—from the simple but essential Assorted Pastries to the heartier Chipotle Chicken Breakfast Sandwich—is fresh and delicious, with a reputation for being freshly made.
For remote workers, September is an absolute standout. The trio of strong coffee, reliable Wi-Fi, and a cozy, air-conditioned environment makes it a highly coveted, though often busy, workspace. Patrons who need an environment that feels inspiring and productive will appreciate the cafe’s atmosphere, which manages to be lively without being overwhelming, perfect for background noise or journal writing. However, be aware that its popularity means it can fill up quickly, a true testament to its local appeal.
Beyond the food and logistics, the intentional community spirit, championed by its Black-owned leadership, is a significant draw. It's a place where chance connections happen, and patrons feel a sense of belonging. The smooth transition into a wine bar later in the day also provides an extra layer of versatility, allowing you to seamlessly move from your work session to a casual evening drink without changing venues.
While some reviews have noted occasional lapses in service speed or cleanliness when the cafe is at its busiest—a natural challenge for any highly popular spot—the overwhelming sentiment remains positive. The friendly staff and overall welcoming energy ensure that, for many, September is a non-negotiable part of their Bed-Stuy routine. If you are in the area and looking for a local cafe that delivers on quality, community, and comfort, September is a clear and compelling choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place can get extremely busy if you just turn around and blink, which is a good sign. The coffees are around $7-$8, and the pastries are between $5-6.There are 10-12 spots to sit, with 4 outside. The staff is friendly and consistent.
July 29 · MichaelI was looking for a spot with indoor seating, AC, and Wi-Fi, and this place fit the bill. The bagel was tasty, though a little heavy on the cream cheese (easy enough to scrape some off), and the coffee was strong and flavorful. The service was fine but felt impersonal—more like being treated as a number than a guest. A simple warm hello or smile can go a long way. What stood out most was the cleanliness, or lack of it. Many tables were dirty, and the floor could’ve used a sweep, while staff were chatting about weekend plans instead of tidying up. It gave the impression that customer experience wasn’t the priority.Overall, the food and coffee were good, but the atmosphere and service could use some improvement.
August 18 · Veronica EdwardsIt’s an average and busy neighborhood cafe. We came here for an early morning coffee, we had a cold brew and regular filtered coffee but the coffee -my filtered coffee- was sour and to be honest I didn’t like it! The place has a unique painted frames and they make fresh croissant. Nice music and good service.
December 10 · T D (DesertPearl78)Went today @2pm it was that was quite busy inside all seating was taken, prompting us to choose a seat outdoors. I ordered a vanilla iced latte, which I found to be pleasurable and well-prepared.
May 12 · Cynthia Leah OkokoDisgusting coffee shop with terrible service- should be shut down. Literally found hair in my coffee. Extremely rude staff - the two men working there. Good luck with Health Department!
